My youngest just turned two, which is pretty incredible. Time FLIES! And this is the oldest youngest I've ever had (did you follow that?). In the past I would already be juggling another baby by now - but since we finally made the permanent decision to be done, he's officially The Baby, regardless of age. Poor guy. Hah!
So when I realized recently that we had a pretty good stash of baby food leftover, but no babies (The Baby notwithstanding), I started coming up with ways to use it. And if we're being totally honest, I've even bought a little more recently.
3 Ways to Use Baby Food with Big Kids:
- TO ADD MORE VEGGIES! We've already talked about the first way to use baby food in big kid meals with the Creamy Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese. Baby food is so finely pureed that it incorporates beautifully into sauces. Whether it's mac and cheese, spaghetti sauce, chili, or sloppy joes, baby food is a great way to sneak in some extra nutrition.
- SUBSTITUTE FOR SYRUP! Skip the sugary pancake stuff and go with something naturally sweet like applesauce, pears, or peaches for your next breakfast topping.
- AS A DIP! My kids, and I think most kids, love to dip their food, and admittedly, I'm hard pressed to turn down a side of ranch. So how about putting out some sweet baby food like an apple oatmeal to dip apple slices into? Or for the savory stuff like french fries, stir in some sweet potatoes!
