About Me.

Hi! I'm April (or you might know me as MommyNamedApril). I'm a once upon a time attorney who started blogging at April's Little Family back in 2008 as a way to keep my folks updated on the kiddos without emailing 15,000 pictures six times a week.

A few months later, I added Mama Loves Food to help keep track of my recipes.  I shared the site with a few friends, who shared it with their friends, and eventually this little hobby of mine turned into something I could put on a business card.

If you've been with me for a while, or keep up with my Facebook page, you know I have hoards of kids (5) and they're mostly boys (4).  I'm the cautiously adventurous type who likes piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.

Wait, no.  Sorry, that's just Shrek in the background.  I'm the cautiously adventurous type who thinks having five kids in the span of six years is cool, but would never (ever, ever, ever) sky dive.  (Seriously, please don't ask me to sky dive).  I'm (mostly) paleo with a hopeless addiction to roasted marshmallows and crème brûlée.

No, I'm not Mormon.  Or Irish Catholic.  Or Roman Catholic.  Just a gal who really loves kids.  And food.  Mostly food.  No, kids.  No, well.  Can I like both?

What I'm trying to say is, I'm glad you're here.

  1. Loving children and food, both wonderful things! If you ever start to confuse the two and find yourself nibbling on fingers and trying to change a rotisserie chicken's diaper, just grab a nice pinot (or whatever is your poison) and put your feet up! ;)

I found your recipe of corn chowder which I made recently and which I blogged about in my new blog http://botanistcooks.blogspot.com/ You might like to check out my blog and give me some feedback. I have just begun this particular blog and am open to suggestions for improvement. I am really impressed with your blog.

  3. I was copying your recipe and glanced at your profile. My name is also April, so that caught my eye. I'm also a homeschooling mom of five...four boys and one girl. The universe is a funny place. Thanks for the great recipes and ideas. You are a better mom than I am to be able to keep up with everyone AND have time to blog. :)

  4. Why do you tout that you're "heathen" in your bio? Just curious...

  5. Tried to EMail you, but it says some thing about default email client is not set up right. Love your recipes, but very disappointed with the printing part. Printed the Raspberry Cream Cheese Filled Sugar Cookies and had to print 33pages just to get the recipe. This was ridiculous.

    1. Hi Claire - I'm so sorry you're having technical difficulties with my page! The email error means you haven't set your computer up to email directly from the web browser. You're always welcome to email me directly by typing AprilWoodsCary@gmail.com into your email. The print feature (I assume you clicked the green print icon in the post?) should give you the option to keep or delete however much or little as you want (delete just by clicking on the text). I do it that way because some folks like to print the step-by-step pictures. Hope that helps! <3

  9. April,
I stumbled upon your blog via a Pintrest post of your Refrigerated Dill Pickles (which I'm totally gonna make with my homegrown cucumbers this year)! When I read your quick about me on the right side. "Lover of food and seeker of chaos!" That is so me!! I rarely ever and I do mean rarely subscribe to a blog based on a pin or an about me but, when I continued to peruse your blog and started with your full bio, I felt like someone was talking about me! Not in the career sense or blogging (I'm too chicken lol), but with your love for children. My husband and I have 9 kiddos, 5 of them are 6 and younger so I get the chaos and adventure scene. I also love that your blog isn't overwhelming and it's user friendly and well organized. Can you have an unorganized blog? Anyway, thank you for sharing a slice of your life and I can't wait to get my first newsletter from you!

    Thanks,
