Preparation
Can you make rice crispy squares ahead of time?
Yes, the treats can be made 1 – 3 days ahead of time and still taste fresh and delicious.
Can you add extra marshmallows to a rice krispy treats recipe?
Absolutely, you can add up to an extra half a bag of mini marshmallows to this recipe if you like them extra ooey gooey!
What else can you add to rice krispies treats?
Some of our favorite stir-ins are mini chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, crushed oreos, and sprinkles!
Why are my rice krispies treats hard?
There’s a couple of likely culprits for hard rice krispies treats!
Too much cooking
If you cook the butter and marshmallow together too long it will make the sugars harder. You’ll want to cook them only until they’ve just melted and combined.
Pressed into the pan too hard
When you press the warm mixture into your pan, do so gently and just enough for them to take shape. If you condense them too much they will be hard and difficult to eat.
Leftovers and storage
How long do they last?
These will keep up to 5 days when stored at room temperature in an air tight container.
Can you freeze rice crispy bars?
We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
