It only took my Venezuelan brother-in-law, like thirteen years (okay, maybe not quite *that* many) to teach me the easy way to cook a plantain. These plantains are so unbelievably delicious, it’s almost impossible to believe that all you did was pop it in an oven, skin and all! He says I should try them with cheese, but I’m kind of addicted to a hefty sprinkle of salt. Yum.
Easy Roasted Plantain
Ingredients
- Plantains
- Sea salt
Instructions
- Choose a plantain that is very (very very) ripe. Like, more black than yellow. Place unpeeled plantain on a sheet of foil.
- Roast at 375 degrees for about 25 to 35 minutes, until plantain has burst from the peel.
- Remove remainder of peel, slice, and sprinkle with salt.
- Enjoy!

Would the roasted plantains work for tostones? It would eliminate frying & smashing? Just curious!

No, tostones are made with under-ripe plantains (so they are savory). This recipe is made with ripe plantains (so it is sweet). Hope that helps! 🙂
