Frequently Asked Questions
You got questions? I’ve got answers!
What Is The Best Cut Of Meat For Pulled Pork
The best cut of meat for pulled pork is a pork shoulder, but these can be hard to find in grocery stores. Grab it if you see one! If not, the next best choice is a Boston butt, which is half the shoulder (the other half is the picnic shoulder).
That being said, the size of your slow cooker may determine the cut and size that you choose!
How Much Pork Do I Buy For Pulled Pork
Buy 1/3 to 1/2 pound of pork per person when preparing to make pulled pork. Remember that a bone in cut will lose up to 40% of its’ weight once cooked and shredded, so a 10 pound roast (for instance) will end up at about 6 pounds of meat. That would be enough for 12 to 18 people.
How Long Can I Keep Pulled Pork In A Slow Cooker
You can cook your pulled pork in a slow cooker for 6 to 10 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 190F. If you choose to leave it in the slow cooker to serve, at a pot luck for instance, make sure that the internal temperature stays in the safe range of 145F or above.
How Long Can I Keep Pulled Pork In The Refrigerator
Pulled pork can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days if stored properly. Keep in an airtight container or plastic bag.
Can I Freeze Pulled Pork
You can freeze Pulled Pork after allowing it to cool. It is important that the meat is frozen within a couple hours of cooking or cooling to prevent the growth of dangerous bacteria.
Place in airtight containers or plastic bags, then label and date. It should keep indefinitely at 0F or below, but will probably maintain the best flavor if eaten within 6 months.
How Do I Reheat Pulled Pork
You can reheat pulled pork in the microwave or the stovetop. If you are thawing, always allow to thaw in the refrigerator to prevent the growth of dangerous bacteria.
Nutrition
Is Pulled Pork Paleo
Pulled pork can be paleo, if you are careful about which barbecue sauce you are using. Look for one with no added sugars.
Is Pulled Pork Keto
Pulled pork could fit into a keto diet with a couple of adjustments. First, you would need to lose the pineapple, due to it’s high sugar content. You could substitute a different acidic ingredients, such as apple cider vinegar (just a small amount), but it will change the taste.
For keto dieters, the barbecue sauce can add significant carbohydrates; choose or make a sauce that is low in sugars.
Is Pulled Pork Gluten Free
Pulled pork is gluten free if the barbecue sauce you choose contains no gluten. A homemade sauce will give you more control of ingredients.

This is an awesome recipe, Pork is my favorite meat of choice….can’t wait to make it…oh, and by the way, you gotta try “Ox Tail Soup” again, it is to die for…..
What size of bottle of BBQ sauce did you use and can you use boneless pork shoulder and will it change the cook time?
This is a very forgiving recipe, your bottle should be between about 16 – 20 ounces (just the standard size bottle from the market). Boneless pork shoulder is great and it should not change the cook time 🙂
Please tell me where did you find aunt cora seasoning
Uhg, sadly they went out of business. The closest match that I’ve found is Lawry’s.
Any idea of carbohydrate count? I’m looking forward to cooking this for my wife but she is diabetic and I need to know carb count before trying the recipe. Thanks – I look forward to enjoying this dish!
