Visiting Walt Disney World is often described as a magical experience, but for those who can’t eat gluten, planning a theme park vacation can come with extra layers of worry.

Between the long days, crowded dining locations, and the ever-present concern about gluten cross-contact, navigating the parks safely may seem overwhelming. The good news? Disney has a long-standing reputation for accommodating guests with special dietary needs, and with a bit of preparation, you can enjoy the parks just as fully as anyone else.

  • Mobile Ordering Limitations: While the My Disney Experience app allows mobile ordering, you can also order in person if it makes you feel more comfortable explaining your situation to a person.

Table-Service Dining

Table-service restaurants are where Disney truly shines for guests with celiac disease. Here’s why:

  • Chef Consultations: At most sit-down restaurants, a chef will personally come to your table to review gluten-free options and address cross-contamination concerns.

  • Pro tip: Signature dining restaurants (like California Grill or Le Cellier) are especially attentive and offer gourmet gluten-free options.

Snacks and Treats

A Disney trip wouldn’t be complete without snacks, and being gluten-free doesn’t have to mean missing out:

  • Mickey Waffles: Available gluten-free at many breakfast locations when requested.
  • Popcorn: Regular Disney popcorn is gluten-free and a safe on-the-go option.
  • Dole Whip: This iconic pineapple soft-serve is naturally gluten-free.

Gluten Free at Magic Kingdom

This park has some of the strongest gluten-free options. Columbia Harbour House serves allergy-friendly grilled salmon and chicken. Be Our Guest offers gluten-free rolls and desserts. Don’t miss the safe churros at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn (ask specifically for the gluten-free version).

Gluten Free at EPCOT

EPCOT is a dream for food lovers, but it requires more diligence during the seasonal festivals. The permanent restaurants are fantastic for gluten-free dining—Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada and Via Napoli in Italy both offer accommodating menus. During festivals, check the Festival Passport for allergy-friendly notations and ask at each booth about preparation practices.

Gluten Free at Hollywood Studios

Gluten-free quick-service options are more limited here, but still available. Backlot Express and ABC Commissary both have safe sandwiches and fries. For sit-down meals, the Hollywood Brown Derby is a solid choice with chef-prepared gluten-free entrees. And Catalina Eddies serves what might be the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had! (Pro-tip, order the kids meal version, its still huge!).

Gluten Free at Animal Kingdom

This park is home to one of the best gluten-free meals on property: Satu’li Canteen in Pandora, where you can build a customizable bowl with safe bases and proteins. Flame Tree Barbecue is another favorite with naturally gluten-free options.

CELIAC AT DISNEY WORLD

Tips for Avoiding Cross-Contamination

  • Even with Disney’s strong allergy protocols, it’s wise to remain vigilant:
  • Always clearly state you have celiac disease or gluten allergy (not just a “gluten preference”).
  • Confirm that separate cooking equipment is used for your meal.
  • Double-check baked goods and desserts, which are more prone to cross-contact.
