Grinch Hot Chocolate Ingredients

  • Milk – Whole milk works best but 2% will be fine in a pinch.

  • Extracts – Real vanilla extract and peppermint extract.
  • Food coloring – Green food coloring.
  • Whipped topping – Whipped cream.
  • Sprinkles – Red heart sprinkles or different sprinkles of your choice.

For a more classic white hot chocolate, you can skip the peppermint flavoring.

Preparation

Can you make Grinch hot chocolate ahead of time?

This recipe is best enjoyed right after making it. I don’t recommend making this ahead.

What kind of chocolate to use?

We used white chocolate chips and it worked really well! You could also use white candy melts if that is what you have on hand.

What if I don’t like peppermint extract?

If you don’t want a peppermint flavor in your Grinch hot chocolate, just leave the peppermint extract out.

Storage and leftovers

How long does Grinch hot chocolate last?

This recipe doesn’t store super well because of the chocolate melted into it. We recommend enjoying this after making and not saving the leftovers.

Can I freeze Grinch hot chocolate?

We do not recommend freezing this recipe.

Tips and tricks

✅ Sprinkle with crushed peppermint candy instead of red sprinkles for another burst of peppermint flavor!

✅ Start with a few drops of food coloring and add more as needed. Try using gel food coloring to get a nice bright green color for your Grinchy drink.

✅ Instead of whipped cream, top with mini marshmallows and then add sprinkles for a different flavor spin.

✅ Drizzle some chocolate syrup on top of the whipped cream to amp up the chocolate flavors.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a non-dairy milk alternative for Grinch Hot Chocolate?

Yes, you can substitute non-dairy milk alternatives like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk for whole milk if you prefer or have dietary restrictions. Just be aware that the flavor and consistency may vary slightly.

Can I make Grinch Hot Chocolate without a stovetop?

Yes, you can make Grinch Hot Chocolate in the microwave. Simply heat the milk and white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe container in short intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted. Be cautious not to overheat, as we do not want the mixture to boil.

Are there any alternatives to whipped cream for topping?

Certainly! In addition to whipped cream, you can top your Grinch Hot Chocolate with alternatives like marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a dollop of coconut cream for a vegan option.

Can this be made without peppermint extract?

If you’re making Grinch Hot Chocolate for someone who may not enjoy the peppermint flavor, simply omit the peppermint extract from the recipe. You’ll still have a delightful green hot chocolate without the minty twist.
