Honey Mustard Salmon Ingredients
- Salmon filet – My favorite is wild caught salmon (you’ll know it by the deep and bright color), that said, farm raised will taste delicious too!
- Honey – Something I love to do is buy local honey, but any kind of honey works great.
- Dijon mustard – Whole grain looks so pretty on this fish recipe, smooth works just as well though/
- Worcestershire sauce – Soy sauce can be substituted in a pinch.
- Garlic – Minced.
- Seasonings & garnish – Salt & pepper, parsley.

Blend marinade ingredients, pour over salmon, bake, garnish as desired.

Preparation
How long should honey mustard salmon be marinated?
You don’t actually need to marinate this ahead of time. Feel free to whip up the glaze and then bake right away. If you would like to marinate it, you should never marinate salmon with something acidic for more than about 30 minutes. (In this case, the mustard is acidic).
Is honey mustard salmon baked covered or uncovered?
In this recipe, we baked our salmon uncovered. Salmon can be baked both covered or uncovered. If you are worried about the salmon drying out as it bakes, covering it with foil can help keep the moisture in.
I find that it is usually unnecessary to cover salmon while baking, and the marinade makes a lovely tacky glaze when cooked uncovered.
How to season baked salmon
We seasoned ours with garlic salt and pepper and finished it with a sprinkle of fresh parsley when it came out of the oven.
If you want something a little fancier, try our salmon marinade or a honey garlic salmon.

Drizzle honey mustard glaze over salmon.
Storage and leftovers
Can honey mustard salmon be frozen?
Yes! It can definitely be frozen! We often purchase large amounts of salmon from our market when it goes on sale and bake it all up right away, then freeze what we don’t eat.
Frozen salmon can be reheated to eat as is, or turned into smoked salmon dip, or salmon patties!
How to reheat honey mustard salmon
I like to reheat our salmon in the microwave to keep the dish from drying out. You could also steam it, but I would not recommend reheating in the oven.

Make sure to get it underneath as well.
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions
What is the white stuff that oozes out of honey mustard salmon?
The white stuff that oozes out is coagulated protein known as albumin. It is completely harmless and not something to worry about at all.
Albumin is not the same as albumen (the term for egg whites).
How to keep the white stuff from oozing out of honey mustard salmon
Some folks believe the key to keeping the white stuff from oozing out of salmon is to bake it at a higher or lower temperature, but this is actually not true.
There is no sure fire way to prevent the albumin (white coagulated protein) from seeping out of salmon as it is baked, but you can minimize it with a simple salt water brine. Add 1 – 2 tablespoons of salt per cup of water, and let the fish sit in the bring for about ten minutes before baking.
As you can see from the pictures of our salmon, I don’t bother to brine. The white stuff doesn’t bother me or my kids, so we don’t add the extra work. But if I was making it for guests, I would brine first!

Get the salmon good and drenched!
Nutrition
Is honey mustard salmon healthy?
It is very healthy. Objectively speaking it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, it’s a great source of lean protein, it is high in B vitamins, and a good source of potassium.

Garnish with flat leaf parsley for an extra pop of color.
What to eat with honey mustard salmon (serving suggestions)
Try enjoying this dish with a side of creamy tortellini salad, twice baked potatoes, or easy vegetable chow mein. For dessert a helping of watergate pistachio salad, or make a batch of peanut butter oatmeal monster cookies.

A good rule of thumb is about half a pound of salmon per person.
