Preparation
Can you make peanut butter bark ahead of time?
Yes, this can be made several days in advance and stored in an air tight container.
What kind of chocolate for peanut butter bark recipe?
This recipe calls for milk chocolate, but you can absolutely substitute for dark chocolate, or even white chocolate!
What toppings for easy peanut butter bark?
We top this bark with mini peanut butter cups, peanut candy, chopped peanuts, and creamy peanut butter or melted peanut butter chips.
Should I use peanut butter chips or creamy peanut butter?
I find that if you’re serving this soon after making it, then creamy peanut butter is great because it adds another layer of texture and has that straight pure peanut butter flavor we love. It can be a little messy because peanut butter doesn’t set though.
If you’re making it ahead or will have leftovers, we prefer to use melted peanut butter chips as they will set when cooled and not make sticky peanut butter fingers!
Storage and leftovers
How do you store chocolate peanut butter bark?
Store in an air tight container at room temperature. This recipe does not require refrigeration.
Can you freeze it?
We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions
✅ Use high-quality chocolate: Opt for good quality milk chocolate chips to ensure a rich and smooth flavor in your bark.
✅ Be cautious while melting chocolate: When microwaving the chocolate chips, heat it in 20 to 30-second increments and stir well between each session. This helps to prevent overheating and ensures even melting. Avoid overheating as it can cause the chocolate to seize or become grainy.
✅ Spread the chocolate evenly: Use a spatula or the back of a large spoon to spread the melted chocolate onto the prepared sheet. Aim for a thickness of about ¼ inch for a balanced bark texture.
✅ Decorate with precision: Scatter the mini peanut butter cups, Reese’s Pieces candy, and chopped peanuts evenly on top of the chocolate. This ensures that each bite has a delicious combination of flavors and textures.
✅ Adjust peanut butter consistency: When melting the peanut butter, keep an eye on its consistency. If it’s too thick to drizzle, microwave it for a few more seconds until it becomes runny enough to pour smoothly.
✅ Chill for quicker setting: Place the bark in the fridge or freezer to speed up the setting process. This will help the bark firm up more quickly. Only leave it for as long as it takes to set. If you leave it too long, it will “sweat” when removed as it comes back to room temp.
✅ Slice or break into pieces: Once the bark is set, use a sharp knife to cut it or simply break it into irregular pieces using your hands.
