This sweet and salty Popcorn Chocolate Bark is a fun treat that only takes a few minutes to make.

I’m kind of obsessed with popcorn lately – sweet and salty popcorn to be exact.  We’ve been making a ton of Vanilla Butter Popcorn (themed for what we’re watching, of course!) but a few nights ago when we were having a family movie night, I was hardcore craving chocolate.  Since my kids are super chocolate fans too, I didn’t think they’d mind if we switched things up a little and made chocolate the base flavor with highlights of popcorn.  (Spoiler: they didn’t mind.  At all.)

Popcorn Chocolate Bark Ingredients

  • Semi sweet chocolate chips – Semi sweet is the perfect contrast to the salty popcorn.
  • Colorful candy or sprinkles – We used M&M’s but you can choose whatever you like best!
  • Popcorn – I strongly suggest the movie theater butter flavor for that intensely delicious sweet and salty combo we all love.

How do you make chocolate bark with popcorn? (Step-by-step)

First, melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl – heat in short increments, stirring between heat cycles.

Next, spread melted chocolate in a thin layer over a parchment lined baking sheet.  Press candy and popcorn into melted chocolate.

Then, place baking sheet in a cool dry place until set (fridge works, or I put it on my patio if the weather is nice).

Finally, break apart and ENJOY!

When to make Popcorn Chocolate Bark

I think this would make such a fun gift for someone who’s not feeling well – bring it with a movie!  Or a teacher gift – or even a new parent date-night-in gift!  Or you could just eat it all.  Which is exactly what happened in our house.

Tips and tricks

🟢 If you chill your chocolate bark in the refrigerator, only leave it for as long as it takes to set. If you leave it too long, it will “sweat” when removed as it comes back to room temp.

🟢 To store, keep at room temp in a sealed container in a cool dry place.

🟢 Prefer sweet-on-sweet? Try this with kettle corn instead of movie butter popcorn.

Suggested tools

  • Bakers half sheet – It’s cool, we only have about six of these bakers half sheets because they’re good for absolutely everything.  Cookies? Yes! Steak? Yes! Cake? Oh yeh! Roasted veggies? Uhhhh huh!
  • Silicone baking mats – Nothing sticks to these!  Whaaaa?!  Perfect for baking sugary cookies, or cheesy croissants.  You know why? Because nothing sticks to these!!!
