Why you’ll love this recipe!

📌 Only 4 ingredients!

📌 Simple to make and appropriate for occasions ranging from black tie to Tuesday afternoon.

📌 Everything is better with bacon.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus – Fresh asparagus. Frozen and canned will not work in this recipe.
  • Bacon – Standard thickness center cut bacon. We do not recommend thick sliced bacon as it will take too long to cook.
  • Oil – We are partial to olive oil, but any mild vegetable oil will work. You could even use rendered bacon fat if you like.
  • Seasonings – Salt and pepper are our go-to’s, but Montreal steak seasoning or lemon pepper seasoning are also delicious options.

BACON WRAPPED ASPARAGUS INGREDIENTS

Step-by-step directions

First, remove the woody ends of the asparagus. Place the spears in a shallow dish and toss with olive oil and a generous amount of seasoning.

Next, wrap a small bundle of spears in bacon, being mindful not to overlap it too much.

Then, continue until all the asparagus has been wrapped.

Finally, place the wrapped spears on a lined baking sheet and cook until the bacon is crisped and the asparagus is tender.

HOW TO MAKE BACON WRAPPED ASPARAGUS

Preparation

What kind of  bacon for this bacon asparagus recipe?

You’ll want center cut bacon, standard slice.  You’ll want to avoid the thick cut bacon as it will take too long to cook and then your asparagus will end up overdone.

As for flavor, go ahead and experiment! I love a smoked bacon and my husband is partial to a peppered bacon.

Can you make it ahead of time?

You can prepare the bundles up to a day in advance and store the wrapped tray in your refrigerator, but you’ll want to roast the asparagus immediately before eating.

What seasoning for bacon wrapped asparagus in the oven?

In the pictured recipe we use salt and pepper (classic flavor and definitely delicious!) but I like to mix it up sometimes by using Montreal steak seasoning, lemon pepper seasoning, our classic spice rub, taco seasoning, or even a smoky barbecue seasoning blend.

Definitely comment below if there’s a spice blend you love with this recipe!

Storage and leftovers

How long does this last?

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days.  Cover tightly or store in an air-tight container for best results.

How do you reheat bacon wrapped asparagus?

I like to reheat this in the air fryer (400 degrees F for 3 – 5 minutes) or in the toaster oven. You can also re-heat in a conventional oven or microwave.

Can you freeze the leftovers?

We do not recommend freezing this recipe at any stage.

This is such a great side dish- it’s really easy to pull off but also elevates the asparagus. Bacon makes everything better!
