Homemade Egg Noodle Ingredients

  • Flour – All purpose flour is fine, or you can mix in some whole wheat
  • Eggs – medium or large
  • Milk – Depending on the size of the egg, you may need a little less or a little more milk. Gauge as you mix your dough.
  • Salt – just a pinch!
INGREDIENTS TO MAKE EGG NOODLES
Only three ingredients: flour, egg, milk!

How do you make egg noodles? (Step-by-step)

First, put the flour in a large mixing bowl and make a well in the center. Add eggs, milk, and salt to well and whisk to combine.

Then, roll or cut dough into noodles.

Next, drop noodles into boiling water or soup and cook for 5-7 minutes.

Finally, drain and serve with butter, or ladle out some yummy homemade soup!

Preparation

Can you pan fry egg noodles?

You can pan fry the cooked noodles. After cooking and draining, add to some melted butter in a saute pan. Do not crowd the pan and don’t over stir. You want to develop some crusty bits, which are a nice side to a meat dish like pot roast or meatloaf.

What can I boil egg noodles in?

You can boil the noodles in salted water, soups, or water to which you have added vegetable, chicken, or beef bouillon cubes for flavor.

How can I flavor them?

Egg noodles can be flavored with many things! One of my favorites is a mix of olive oil, Italian seasonings, garlic and onion powders, and a healthy sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

You could also go for Asian flavors with some soy sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Leftovers and storage

How long do they last in the refrigerator?

Egg Noodles will last 3-5 days in the refrigerator.

Can you freeze egg noodles?

Yes, you can freeze the noodles. After cutting, allow them to dry overnight and then store in freezer safe container. To use, you can take from freezer and drop directly into soup or boiling water and cook as directed (they may need a couple extra minutes, so keep an eye on them).

How do you reheat egg noodles?

You can reheat the noodles if they are in a soup or sauce by zapping them in the microwave. If they are plain, you can briefly drop them in some boiling water. If they are in butter or a light sauce, reheat in a skillet on medium heat.

Can you cook them in a crock pot or slow cooker?

If you are cooking soup in your crock pot and want to add egg noodles, it is best to let the soup cook completely, then add the noodles at the end to cook for about 20 minutes or so.

Tools we love

  • End grain cutting board – This is my absolute favorite cutting board and the one that I get the most compliments on.  And p.s. I have a lot of cutting boards.  It really is absolutely stunning, and knows how to take a beating.  We use it every single day!
  • Calphalon everyday pan – This is a 12? two handled pan that you will use pretty much every day.  Which, of course is why it’s called an everyday pan.  I have this one and the Le Creuset version.  I use a whole lot of pots and pans in my line of work (apologies to my husband, the dishwasher!) and these are by far my most frequently used pans.

I have been wanting to try to make homemade noodles and egg noodles are my go to for most dishes. My favorite is my healthy version of Cheeseburger Helper, a favorite when I was a kid. I recently tried a simple recipe of egg noodles, sour cream and cottage cheese with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. I added sauteed spinach to make it a one dish meal. Love your recipes. Everything I have tried has been delicious. Vicki

As a child, I didn’t like egg noodles! Any other pasta was okay, but not noodles, which my mother served with butter! (They made me gag!) To encourage me to eat them, she put strawberry jam on them. (Double gag.) When I was pregnant, I craved noodles and butter! My poor husband had to eat them about 5 x week! I still love them, with butter, salt and pepper, with stroganoff, anyway I can get them. I only serve them every couple of weeks, though! I am going to try this recipe….the price of “cheap” foods is out of sight.
