Hash Brown Waffle Ingredients
- Shredded potato – Specifically, a bag of frozen hash browns or refrigerated hash browns.
- Cheese – Shredded. I like a fiesta blend, but you can use whatever you like or whatever you have on hand.
- Seasoned salt – You could also use a little of our spice rub recipe, or just some salt and pepper!
- Pan release – I like to use this homemade pan release, but you can also use something store bought or just oil or melted butter.
Mix together shredded potato, cheese, and seasoning. Place it on an oiled waffle maker.
How do you make hashbrown waffles? (step-by-step)
⭐ First, preheat waffle iron and spray the waffle iron or coat with non-stick pan release or cooking spray.
⭐ Then, mix together defrosted hash browns, shredded cheese, and seasoned salt.
⭐ Next, place potato mixture onto preheated waffle iron and close tightly.
⭐ Finally, cook through waffle iron heating cycle until hash browns are golden brown and crisped to your liking.
Enjoy right away or cool on a wire rack so they stay crispy.
Preparation
Can you make hash brown waffles ahead of time?
Yes! I like to make a pile of them at the beginning of the week and enjoy for breakfast or snacks all week long. Crisp them up in the toaster oven before enjoying.
Can you make hash brown waffles without cheese?
We use the cheese to help bind the hash brown together, but if you can’t handle, or just don’t want to use cheese they can be made without. Just know that they won’t hold together quite as well.
Alternatively, you can mix a gently scrambled egg into the hash brown mix before cooking.
Can I use freshly shredded potato?
Yes, but you’ll want to soak the shredded potato for at least 30 minutes (or as long as overnight) before cooking). Drain before using.
Leftovers and storage
How long do hash brown waffles last?
These will keep in the refrigerator for about a week. For best results store in an air tight container.
Can you freeze hash brown waffles?
Yes! Reheat in the toaster oven until crispy again. No need to thaw before re-heating.
The waffles will last in the freezer several months. Make sure to store in a freezer-safe, air tight container.
I like to use them for open faced sandwiches!
What to eat with hash brown waffles (serving suggestions)
I love to top mine with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. You can also use the waffles in place of bread like we do in this open face turkey club recipe. For dessert try a quick oreo fluff!

How to Make Hash Brown Waffles
Hash Brown Waffles
Ingredients
- 4 cups shredded hash browns frozen or refrigerated
- ¼ cup shredded cheese
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
Instructions
- Preheat waffle iron. (If your waffle maker has a heat setting, choose medium high heat).
- In a large bowl, mix together shredded hash browns (thawed), shredded cheese, and seasoned salt.
- Spray or brush waffle iron with pan release.
- Place hash brown mixture on waffle iron. We typically use about 1 cup per waffle (our iron makes 4 waffles at once). It will look like a lot!
- Carefully close waffle maker completely and cook until waffle cycle is complete and/or waffles are browned and crisped to your liking. (FYI - cooking will create lots and lots of steam!)
- Enjoy ASAP or cool on a wire rack until ready to eat.
