Chocolate Mousse is so delicious and this recipe takes just minutes – no one will guess you cheated and it was only two ingredients!
Okay, so not only does this Chocolate Mousse take only two ingredients, but it also takes only two minutes to make. And that’s if you move at half speed. I’m not even kidding. Serve it after a delicious meal of our Italian sausage soup recipe!

Chocolate Mousse, Ingredients
- Chocolate instant pudding mix – If you can find dark chocolate, that’s my personal favorite. But regular chocolate is delicious too.
- Heavy whipping cream – This is also sometimes just called heavy cream and can typically be found in small cartons near the milk.
- Optional:
- Fresh strawberries – Is it really optional though?
- Shaved chocolate – Go ahead, raid your kid’s Halloween stash. I won’t tell.
- Sprinkles – If you can’t find any chocolate to shave, sprinkles are another good option. Or you could YOLO and do both.
Make sure you grab instant pudding mix and not stove top!
How Do You Make Chocolate Mousse
⭐ First, combine pudding mix and whipping cream in a bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on low for a few seconds until blended.
⭐ Next, increase mixer speed to high and beat an additional 30 seconds or so until mousse forms.
⭐ Finally, layer over strawberries and enjoy! If you’re bringing it to a friend (please do!) just pop the mousse in the fridge until you’re ready to head out.
Heavy whipping cream is also sometimes just called heavy cream.
Tips and Tricks
🟢 Try using a piping bag to easily portion chocolate mousse into individual jars, cups, or bowls.
🟢 Add your favorite mix-ins like crushed cookies, fruit, or marshmallows!
🟢 Be careful not to over mix – stop when the mixture is fluffy and scoopable.
Stop whisking when the mixture gets fluffy and holds its own shape.
Preparation
I love this mousse because it comes together so easily, is super light and delicious, and you can stuff it into cute little mason jars to share with friends.
Can you make chocolate mousse ahead of time?
You can prepare this recipe a day in advance. Store in the refrigerator in a covered bowl, tupperware, or sealed piping bag until you’re ready to use or serve.
Can I substitute the cream for milk?
Do not substitute the cream for milk in chocolate mousse. If you use milk instead, you will end up with regular pudding. Which is delicious, but not the goal here.
Do I need an electric mixer to prepare this?
You will need an electric mixer or immersion blender to whip enough air into the cream in time for it to set properly with the pudding mix and achieve the right consistency.
Top with shaved chocolate or sprinkles!
Storage and leftovers
How long does chocolate mousse last?
Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Any longer than that and they texture will be less appetizing.
Can you freeze chocolate mousse?
We do not suggest freezing this recipe. It is best eaten soon after preparation.
And a side of fresh strawberries. YUM!
Chocolate Mousse with Friends
Friends are important, yo. Friends + chocolate are the best. And friends + chocolate + wine are better than the best. I’m going to take a time out here and do a PSA: don’t forget about your friends.
Consider this a sign to call up and make plans with your bestie. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in life and family and let time get away. So, here’s the gauntlet. Thrown. Make this mousse, buy some wine, and have a friend date.
We served ours in teacups, but small bowls or jars would work well too!
More ridiculously easy desserts!
I like to pipe the mousse into pretty swirls, but you can also just scoop it with a spoon!

Suggested Tools
- Santuko knife – My favorite knife for cutting vegetables! This knife is the perfect size and shape, handles great, and is super reasonably priced. Also, I just love that it’s fun and colorful!
- Electric mixer – I love love love love love (x’s 100) my stand mixer. Really and truly. But my daily work horse is this handheld electric mixer. It even comes in allll the colors. Which, yay!
But it sure doesn’t hurt either. 😉

You don’t even actually need an electric mixer for it. I will say that if you’re not using an electric mixer you should hold back some of the heavy cream from the beginning and only add it after the rest of the mix is fully incorporated as it helps keep the mix smoother and fluffier if you do.
