How do you make Valentine’s jello shots? (step-by-step directions)
⭐ First, set out your shot cups on a tray and make sure there is space in your fridge for the tray of jello shots.
⭐ Next, in a large measuring cup with a spout, mix the boiling water with the raspberry jello. Whisk until the jello is dissolved. Add in cold water and vodka and whisk until combined. Carefully pour the mixture into the shot glasses and fill about half full. Place the tray in the fridge to allow jello to set.
⭐ Then, remove the tray when jello has set and begin making the strawberry layer. Mix the boiling water with the strawberry jello and whisk until dissolved. Preparation
Can Valentine’s jello shots be made ahead of time?
Yes, these can be made a day in advance, but we recommend not topping the jello shot with the whipped cream or sprinkles until right before serving.
What kind of jello flavors to use for Valentine’s jello shots?
We used raspberry and strawberry to get two different colors (red and pink). Use any two red and pink flavors that you can find to get the Valentine’s day look.
What kind of vodka should I use for Valentine’s jello shots?
We recommend using a brand or flavor of vodka that you enjoy. You could try using a flavored vodka or just plain vodka with a mild finish to keep these fun and enjoyable.
How do you make these without using shot glasses?
To skip dealing with all the plastic cups and pouring, make jello blocks by adding a packet of plain Knox Gelatin to the boiling water along with each jello packet.
Then instead of pouring your mixture into cups, layer the jello into a baking or casserole dish. When set, slice into squares and serve! The extra gelatin will make them firm enough to handle.
Storage and leftovers
How long do Valentine’s jello shots last?
Leftovers will keep for up to 5 days. If making them ahead of time, it’s best not to make them more than two days in advance or they will start to get watery. Do not garnish until ready to serve.
Can you freeze Valentine’s jello shots?
We do not recommend freezing jello shots.
Tips and tricks
✅ If you want these to be kid-friendly, simply replace the vodka with cold water.
✅ Don’t refrigerate these with the whipped cream on top, instead garnish right before serving for best results!
✅ Try using a flavored vodka like cherry or whipped cream flavored!
✅ Making these for a crowd? Easily double or triple the recipe to make as many as you need.
Frequently asked questions
How can I prevent the layers from mixing when pouring the second layer?
To prevent the layers from mixing, pour the second jello layer slowly over the back of a spoon or onto a surface (like a plate) to diffuse the impact and create a gentler pour.
What can I use instead of whipped cream for topping?
If you prefer a different topping, consider frosting, yogurt, fruit puree, or coconut cream as alternatives to whipped cream. Or just skip it entirely!
Can I make these jello shots in different shapes?
Absolutely! Instead of shot glasses, use silicone molds in various shapes for a creative twist. This works well for themed parties or special occasions.
How do I avoid air bubbles in the jello?
To minimize air bubbles, stir the jello mixture gently and allow it to settle for a short time before pouring it into the shot glasses. You can also tap the shot glasses lightly to release any trapped air.
Can I use fresh fruit in the jello layers?
Yes, you can add small pieces of fresh fruit to the jello layers for added texture and flavor. Ensure the fruit is small and won’t interfere with the jello’s setting process.
