Preparation
Can you make candy corn jello shots ahead of time?
Yes, they can be made ahead and stored uncovered in the fridge for up to two days. If they are covered well, they will last 5 days in the fridge. Do not garnish them if you are making ahead, add the whipped cream and candy corn just before serving.
What kind of shot glass should I use?
This recipe calls for 2 ounce glass shot glasses but you can use any size, plastic or glass. If you use larger glasses, it will make less shots and smaller shot glasses will make more shots.
What if I don’t like almond extract?
This is added to mimic the flavor of the candy corn. If you aren’t a fan of almond extract, you can swap it for vanilla or another flavor of your choice, or you can leave it out completely.
How do you make this without using shot glasses?
To skip dealing with all the plastic cups and pouring, make jello blocks by adding 1 packet of plain Knox Gelatin to the boiling water along with each jello packet.
Then instead of pouring your mixture into cups, pour the whole thing into a baking or casserole dish. When set, slice into squares and serve! The extra gelatin will make them firm enough to handle.
Leftovers and storage
How long do candy corn jello shots last?
So long as they do not have the whipped cream and candy corn garnish on top, any leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 2 days uncovered or 5 days covered.
If the shots have been garnished and you want to store them, we suggest spooning off the topping before storing. The whipped topping and candy corn get very stiff, sticky and chewy.
Can I freeze candy corn jello shots?
We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
Tips and tricks
✅ For the perfect whipped cream dollop, use a disposable frosting bag with a 1M frosting tip to add the whipped cream garnish.
If using glass shot glasses, it might be necessary to have mini spoons to remove all of the jello shot as you won’t be able to loosen the sides like you might with a typical plastic shot cup.
✅ Change up the flavors of the jello from orange to peach, lemon to pineapple or any flavor combo you want to create!
Frequently asked questions
Why do my jello shots have white lines between the layers?
Sometimes the whipped cream layer will separate a bit and create a thin white line between the layers. It’s harmless and looks cool too!
Why does each layer need whipped cream?
The whipped cream helps to define each layer and give them the solid candy corn look. Without it, the orange ends up spreading into the yellow and white layer

- Carefully fill each shot cup to about a third full. Chill in the refrigerator until set (about 1 hour).

- Carefully fill each shot cup (over the white layer) to about two third full. Chill in the refrigerator until set (about 1 hour).
- When the second layer is set, add the yellow jello to a medium mixing bowl and stir in the boiling water. Whisk until dissolved, then add the vodka and cold water. Add the whipped cream and gently whisk just until combined. Allow to cool for about 15 minutes.
