Preparation
Can you make jello shots ahead of time?
These can be made a day or two ahead of time. Longer than that and you risk them starting to get watery or separating.
What flavor jello for Halloween jello shots?
We recommend orange flavored and grape flavored jello in this recipe. You could also use peach instead of orange. We’re going for the classic orange + purple Halloween color combo!
How do you make this without using plastic shot cups?
To skip dealing with all the plastic cups and pouring, make jello blocks by adding 1 packet of plain Knox Gelatin to the boiling water along with each jello packet.
Then instead of pouring your mixture into cups, pour the whole thing into a baking or casserole dish. When set, slice into squares and serve! The extra gelatin will make them firm enough to handle.
Top with whipped cream, spiders, sprinkles, and other Halloween inspired treats.
Storage and leftovers
How long do jello shots last?
Leftovers will keep for up to 5 days. If making them ahead of time, it’s best not to make them more than two days in advance.
Can you freeze jello shots?
We do not recommend freezing jello shots.
Do they need to be refrigerated?
Leftovers should be kept in the refrigerator. Do not garnish until ready to serve.
These can be made kid safe or adult friendly. Make sure if you do both versions to label well!

How to Make Halloween Jello Shots
Halloween Jello Shots
Ingredients
- 3 ounces orange jello
- 3 ounces grape jello
- 2 cups boiling water (1 cup per jello mixture)
- 1 cup cold water (½ cup per jello mixture)
- 1 cup vodka (½ cup per jello mixture)
- whipped cream
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- sprinkles
Instructions
- In a bowl or glass measuring cup, whisk together 1 cup of boiling water + grape jello mix until dissolved. Whisk in ½ cup cold water and ½ cup vodka.
- Fill shot glasses or containers equally with grape mixture, but not more than halfway full. Chill in the refrigerator about 30 minutes, or until jello has begun to set.
- In a bowl or glass measuring cup, whisk together 1 cup of boiling water + orange jello mix until dissolved. Whisk in remaining ½ cup cold water and ½ cup vodka.
- Fill shot glasses or containers the rest of the way full with the orange mixture. Chill in the refrigerator about 90 minutes, or until jello has fully set.
- While jello is chilling, melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl on high power in the microwave in 15 - 20 second increments, stirring between heating cycles. When chocolate is melted carefully pour it into a piping bag with a small tip (or sandwich bag with the corner snipped off) and and pipe spiders onto parchment paper. Set aside until they have set.
- Immediately before serving, garnish shots with whipped cream, sprinkles, and spiders!
Notes
- Add 1 packet of plain Knox Gelatin to the boiling water along with each jello packet. Then instead of pouring your mixture into cups, pour the whole thing into a small baking or casserole dish. Chill to set, then slice into squares and serve.
