Preparation

How do you cook eggs so they peel easily?

The trick to getting cooked eggs to peel easily is to drop them into a bowl of ice water as soon as they’re done cooking. The quick change in temperature seems to help loosen the shells from the egg a bit.

That said, older eggs, and store bought eggs (likely because they’re older and possibly pasteurized) will always peel easier than farm fresh eggs.

How long do you cook hard boiled eggs in the air fryer?

  • Firm yolk: 15-16 minutes
  • Soft yolk: 13 – 14 minutes
  • Slightly runny yolk: 11 – 12 minutes
  • Runny yolk (soft boiled): 9 – 10 minutes

Storage and leftovers

How long do hard boiled eggs last?

Hard boiled eggs, if refrigerated immediately, will last about one week in the fridge. This is true for both peeled and unpeeled hard boiled eggs.  Make sure to note the date you boiled them on the storage container, or even on the egg itself if they are not peeled.

Can you freeze hard boiled eggs?

We do not recommend freezing hard boiled eggs.

Do you need to refrigerate hard boiled eggs?

Yes, hard boiled eggs should be kept in the refrigerator, they are not shelf stable.

Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions

Why didn’t my hard boiled eggs turn out right in the air fryer?

Like any kitchen appliance, each one is going to cook just a little bit differently. Make sure to test yours with just a few eggs to start to get the timing exactly right for your preferences.

Be sure you’re cooking the eggs in a single layer and they’re not over crowded. The heated air in your air fryer needs to be able to circulate to cook properly and evenly.

This recipe was developed and tested on a Cosori 1700 watt 5.8 quart air fryer, it should as written for wattages between 1400 – 1700.

Why are there brown spots on my air fryer hard boiled eggs?

Sometimes you’ll see dark spots on the shell where your eggs were in contact with the bottom or side of the air fryer.  This is normal and does not affect the flavor or quality of the cooked egg.

What to eat with air fried boiled eggs (serving suggestions)

I love a hard boiled egg sprinkled with some fresh cracked salt and pepper or a dash of everything bagel seasoning!  It’s also so good with a bit of our simple spice rub, fajita seasoning, or chili seasoning on top!

Hard boiled eggs are also great in your favorite recipes like deviled eggs, cobb salad, seven layer salad, and creamy egg salad!

  • 12 eggs* medium or large
  • 1 large bowl ice water

Instructions

  • Rinse and dry eggs. Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook at 275° F for 15 - 16 minutes (for a firm yolk). If your air fryer does not go down that low, then cook at 300° for about 1 minute less.
  • Using tongs, carefully remove eggs to an ice bath as soon as the fryer is done. Allow eggs to sit in ice bath for at least 5 minutes.

  • Firm yolk: 15-16 minutes
  • Soft yolk: 13 - 14 minutes
  • Slightly runny yolk: 11 - 12 minutes
  • Runny yolk (soft boiled): 9 - 10 minutes
*This method can be used to make as few as one egg up to as many eggs as will sit in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Pictured is 1 dozen (12) eggs. Do not layer or crowd the eggs as the fryer needs room for the heated air to circulate.

These boiled eggs were so quick and easy! It is also so convenient for busy mornings. Instant pot is such a great help.

  4. I tried them recently and the result was far from satisfactory. I will stick to boiling in future. Also where on on earth did that word Doneness come from can’t you speak English??

    1. Hey Pete – Did you though? What exactly was unsatisfactory? I make them this way several times a week and they’re awesome. I think maybe you’re just having a bad day. I hope it gets better.

Do you preheat the air fryer for eggs?

Are eggs room temperature or cold from fridge?

  7. Josephine says:

Do you use refrigerated cold eggs or room temperature ones?

  8. Kathy Sodini says:

These eggs were impossible to peel!

    1. Hi Kathy – Sounds like your eggs might not have been old enough; freshly laid eggs are much harder to peel (this is true for every cooking method). If you cooked per the directions and placed immediately into an ice water bath, they should peel just as easily as any other cooking method. Hope that helps! April
