Apple Butter Pancake Ingredients
- All purpose flour – Make sure you don’t purchase self rising flour as it will already contain leavening agents and salt.
- White sugar – Regular granulated sugar here; this can be skipped if you don’t prefer a sweetness to your pancakes or if you need to avoid processed sugar.
- Baking powder – Baking powder works as a leavening agent to help make these the best fluffy pancakes.
- Baking soda – Baking soda also helps make these homemade pancakes super fluffy.
- Salt – Just a little bit of salt goes a long way to elevate all the flavors in a recipe.
- Milk – My preference is whole milk as it gives a richer flavor to the pancakes.
- Egg – Speaking of rich flavor, use a large egg to help with both the richness and the fluffiness of these easy pancakes.
- Oil – I like to use a mild olive oil in our pancake batter, but vegetable oil will work too.
- Apple butter – You can grab a jar at the market or use our homemade apple butter recipe

How do you make apple butter pancakes? (step-by-step)
⭐ First, prepare your pancake batter by combining wet and dry ingredients separately.
⭐ Then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until batter forms.
⭐ Next, pour batter onto a greased skillet at medium high heat and swirl a generous helping of Apple Butter onto it.
⭐ Finally, cook until bubbles start to form and underside is golden brown. Flip and continue to cook until other side is also lightly browned.
Pour batter into skillet, then swirl with apple butter.
Tips and tricks
🟢 Condiment bottles are inexpensive but incredibly useful. We keep our olive oil in one, our mayonnaise, our apple butter (duh), and anything else we want to be able to squeeze out in a controlled line. I’m personally a fan of the ones with caps so the food doesn’t dry out or spoil!
🟢 If you want to get a little Fall crazy, you could totally use our Simple Pumpkin Spice Waffle batter (thin it out with some milk) for the pancake. Yum. I’m a little bit apple and pumpkin obsessed. Have you noticed? Are you? Tell me! What are your favorite fall flavors?
🟢 Don’t want the hassle of making pancakes from scratch? Feel free to use a pancake mix for your batter! It will still be delicious and I won’t tell a soul.
I like to use a condiment bottle to get a good swirl. You could also use an icing bag.

How to Make Apple Butter Pancakes
Apple Butter Pancakes
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup + 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons vegetable or mild olive oil
- Apple butter
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl combine dry ingredients and mix well.
- In a separate bow, whisk together wet ingredients (except apple butter).
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix together just until a batter forms. Make sure to scrape the sides with a spatula to incorporate all the dry ingredients. Do not overmix - it is okay if the batter is lumpy. This is a thick batter, it should be just pourable. If you find the batter is too thick, add additional milk in 1 tablespoon increments.
- Use a small ladle or measuring cup to pour batter onto a greased skillet at medium high heat (I find 325 - 350F is best). Use the back of the ladle to get pancakes into the size and shape you want, if necessary.
- Make a generous swirl of apple butter on top of the pancake batter.
- Cook until bubbles start to form and underside is browned. Flip and continue to cook until finished.
Notes
- Putting your apple butter in a squeezable condiment bottle will make swirling super easy!
- Don't want all the hassle of pancakes from scratch? You can totally use a pancake mix and then top it with a swirl of apple butter when cooking!
