BBQ Chicken Taquito Ingredients
- Chicken – Shredded You can use canned chicken (I promise, it’s yummy!) or cook your shred some baked chicken or (1 pound cooked chicken, shredded)
- Onion – Red onion, finely diced.
- Cheese – Cheddar cheese, shredded. Mexican or fiesta blend cheese is also good.
- Barbecue sauce – Use homemade bbq sauce or grab your favorite bottle from the market.
- Bacon – Cooked to crispy and diced to bits. Make your bacon in the oven, on the stove top, or do some air fryer bacon. You can even get a bag of pre-cooked bacon bits from the salad dressing aisle.
- Garlic salt – I’m partial to Lawry’s garlic salt.
- Tortillas – We really like these with flour tortillas but you can absolutely use corn tortillas as well.
- Oil – Olive oil is my favorite, but any vegetable oil will work.
You can even make these in a toaster oven!

Preparation
Can you make BBQ chicken taquitos ahead of time?
You can make them a day in advance and keep them in the refrigerator, or as many as several days or weeks in advance and keep them in the freezer. I don’t suggest keeping prepared uncooked taquitos in the refrigerator for more than a day though, as they can become soggy.
Leftovers and storage
Can you freeze BBQ chicken taquitos?
You can freeze taquitos both before and after cooking. If freezing before cooking, it is best to freeze them on a flat surface, like a baking sheet. Once they have frozen solid, they can be moved into a freezer bag for more convenient storage.
If freezing after cooking, the taquitos should be sturdy enough to put directly into a freezer bag. Make sure they have cooled completely before freezing.
How do you reheat BBQ chicken taquitos?
These are best reheated in an oven or toaster oven so they will crisp back up. In an oven, bake at 350 degrees on the center rack for about ten minutes. In a toaster oven, set to medium toast and cook until heated and browned.
If you’re not worried about crispiness, then go ahead and pop them in the microwave for 30 – 60 seconds!
