Chocolate chip cookie cups filled with icing are fun and fancy looking but super easy to make. This cookie cup recipe is the perfect go-to simple dessert for your next party or event!
Chocolate chip cookie cups came to our house by way of a birthday! My daughter watches a whole lot of internet cooking shows. In watching all these cooking shows, Josie got it in her head that she wanted something fancy for her birthday. Namely, chocolate chip cookie cups with pink swirled icing.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups Recipe, Ingredients:
- Cookie dough – Your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough (confession, we use pre-made dough sometimes!)
- Frosting – In the pictured recipe we used a can of icing + powdered sugar to make the stiff set swirl, but this raspberry buttercream frosting would also be a great option!
- Food coloring – Optional.
- Sprinkles – Colorful!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups Recipe, Directions:
⭐ First, roll cookie dough into small balls and add one to each prepped muffin well. You’ll want them to be roughly half the size of the tin.
⭐ Next, bake according to cookie directions. Remember, you want these to have some structure and be able to stand on their own, so go for a nice toasty brown color.
⭐ Then, when you take them out of the oven, gently push down on the middle of each cookie. You can use the bottom of a shot glass, or the back of a round handled spoon. Do this as soon as they come out. Set aside and allow to cool completely.
⭐ Finally, remove cookie cups from muffin tin, and pipe icing into each cup. We used a 1m open star piping tip for ours. Add sprinkles immediately.
She was very specific about her cake too – a two layer cookie cake with chocolate icing in the middle and pink roses around the sides. And cookie cups with pink icing and colorful sprinkles.
Kids these days! Kidding, of course. I love making birthday treats for my kiddos and these chocolate chip cookie cups were super fun to make.
We totally cheated and used premade cookie dough from the refrigerator section of the market and a can of icing. Mama’s busy, yo. But it’s important to note that we did make some simple modifications to the icing so it wouldn’t be sticky.
We made these pink chocolate chip cookie cups for my daughter’s birthday, but how cute would they be for a Valentine’s day party or a baby shower?
Obviously you can use any color icing! We love to use gel icing because it creates super vibrant colors and it’s super concentrated so you only need to use the tiniest amount.
How do you make Cookie Cups?
There are two ways to make cookie cups – the easy way and the hard way. The hard way is getting a bajillion ingredients and making everything from scratch.
Which is totally amazing if that’s something you like to do. Me? Not so much.
The easy way is grabbing three, maybe four, ingredients from the market and putting them together to make these super cute icing filled chocolate chip cookie cups.

- Mini muffin tins – These mini muffin tins are the perfect size for baking your chocolate chip cookie cups! I prefer the 24 count tin so I’m doing less shuffling in the oven.
- Gel food coloring – Gel food coloring is my favorite. It’s super concentrated so you only have to use a tiny amount, it makes ultra vibrant colors, and it’s thicker, so you don’t have to worry about spills.
- Colorful sprinkles – Those of you who watch our live show know that I have a slight obsession with sprinkles. We may or may not have an entire section of the pantry dedicated to sprinkles. These tiny round colorful sprinkles are my current favorite!
- Pam baking spray – This baking spray is special because if contains flour. Don’t ask me why flour is the magic ingredient, I just know that it is. I have never had a cake or cookie cup stick when using this spray.
- Star piping tip – This 1m star piping tip is my go-to. I actually have three of them because I’m so afraid I’ll misplace one when I need it. This tip makes perfect swirls and roses every time!

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups Recipe
Ingredients
- Your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough confession, we keep a giant tub of Tollhouse cookie dough in the fridge
- 1 can of icing
- 1 cup powdered sugar
optional
- food coloring
- sprinkles
Instructions
- Grease a mini muffin tin (we love this Pam for baking, it's like magic!)
- Roll cookie dough into small balls and add one to each muffin well. You'll want them to be roughly half the size of the tin. If you make them too big, they'll overflow and things will get (deliciousy) messy.
- Bake according to cookie directions. Remember, you want these to have some structure and be able to stand on their own, so go for a nice toasty brown color.
- When you take them out of the oven, gently push down on the middle of each cookie. You can use the bottom of a shot glass, or the back of a round handled spoon. Do this as soon as they come out. Set aside and allow to cool completely.
- While cookies are cooling, add icing, powdered sugar, and food coloring to a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until fully incorporated.
- Remove cookie cups from muffin tin, and pipe icing into each cup. We used a 1m open star piping tip for ours. Add sprinkles immediately. The powdered sugar in the icing will cause the piped icing to harden a little on the outside as it dries, so the sprinkles will only stick if you do them right away.
- Enjoy
