Kool Aid Pickles Ingredients
- Pickles – You’ll want those neon green dill pickle spears we all grew up with.
- Kool Aid – We used cherry, but these can be made with any flavor.
- Sugar – White granulated.
Pickles, sugar, kool aid packet.
What are kool aid pickles (koolickles)?
These are a fun, sweet and sour, brightly colored pickle brined with dill pickle juice, sugar, and koolaid mix. If you like sweet relish and fun snacks, you’ll love these!
Remove brine from jar and add sugar and kool aid. Whisk until completely dissolved, then return the mix to the pickle jar.
How do you make kool aid pickles? (step-by-step)
⭐ First, strain the pickle juice from the jar of pickles into a separate container.
⭐ Then, stir in the sugar and Kool-Aid until dissolved, then pour back into the pickle jar over the pickles.
⭐ Next, seal the jar, and refrigerate, shaking the jar daily.
⭐ Finally, when pickles are sweetened to your liking, enjoy!
Make sure the pickles are completely covered.
Preparation
What flavor koolaid for pickles?
We used cherry for our pickle, but you can use any flavor! If you’re having a potluck, make a jar of each color for everyone to try!
How long do you let the pickles sit in the kool aid mixture?
You’ll want to let them hang out in the brine for at least a week, but up to two weeks before enjoying. We find they’re perfect for our tastes at right about the two week mark.
Stash them in the fridge for a week or two, making sure to shake the jar once a day.
Storage and leftovers
Do you need to refrigerate kool-aid pickles?
Yes, these should be stored in the refrigerator. Once you open a jar of shelf stable pickles it should be kept in the fridge.
How long do kool aid pickles last?
We try to eat ours within about 30 days. They should technically be good a lot longer as they’re sitting in a vinegar brine, but ours are gone quickly!
They’ll be bright red when you take them out! Woah!
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions
How do you make kool aid pickles less sweet?
If you want yours less sweet, just cut the sugar down as desired. Maybe start with half the amount of sugar and see how you like it, then go from there.
Can you use pickle chips or slices?
Absolutely! Any sliced pickle will work, you just don’t want to use whole pickles since the flavor won’t permeate the skin as well.
These always get a lot of attention at parties.
What to eat with kool aid pickles (serving suggestions)
These are a fun snack any time, but they’re also great to bring to a picnic or potluck alongside some Amish macaroni salad, classic potato salad, and club sandwiches!
If you like sweet relish, you’ll love these!

Tools we love
- Ball Quart Wide Mouth Canning Jars – These are the size jars we typically use. Our pickled onions are refrigerator pickled onions, not water bathed, so it’s just for pretty storage purposes.
- Wide Mouth Plastic Storage Lids – Since these aren’t water bath canned, I prefer to use these plastic storage lids. They’re one piece and screw on really easily.

I like sour pickles but would definitely try the cherry flavor, though. Never would have thought about transforming the flavor with Kool-Aid. The color sure pops! Interesting.

I think chip style pickles would be a good choice to use for this recipe. However, I don’t like pickles-normal or Kool Aid style.
tuckhan says
For my first time trying these pickles I would try cherry; using small/petite pickles. I like both sour pickles the best but do enjoy sweet ones occasionally.
CJ says
I would try this with spears.

I’d probably use Dill Spears and Lemon-Lime Kool-aid.
Valarie Crump says
Oh my goodness! I just watched an episode of State Plate with Taylor Hicks and they showcased Kool Aid pickles!
I think perhaps i would be on the safe side and try lemon lime,,,,, it’s really the color of the other flavors that leave me hesitating!
It would have to be the sandwich slices for me rather than spears and I love pickles, it doesn’t matter if they are sweet or dill or hot!
Mary Rath says
Not sure about these. Will try cherry because that’s my favorite flavor😊
Vicki in Birmingham says
Wow! These look great! It depends on what I am eating as to which kind of pickles I like. I like a Kosher Dill to just eat a pickle, but with food, especially “down home” food, I like a sweet pickle.
