Kool Aid Pickles Ingredients

  • Pickles – You’ll want those neon green dill pickle spears we all grew up with.
  • Kool Aid – We used cherry, but these can be made with any flavor.
  • Sugar – White granulated.
KOOL AID PICKLES INGREDIENTS
Pickles, sugar, kool aid packet.

What are kool aid pickles (koolickles)?

These are a fun, sweet and sour, brightly colored pickle brined with dill pickle juice, sugar, and koolaid mix. If you like sweet relish and fun snacks, you’ll love these!

HOW TO MAKE KOOL AID PICKLES
Remove brine from jar and add sugar and kool aid. Whisk until completely dissolved, then return the mix to the pickle jar.

How do you make kool aid pickles? (step-by-step)

First, strain the pickle juice from the jar of pickles into a separate container.

Then, stir in the sugar and Kool-Aid until dissolved, then pour back into the pickle jar over the pickles.

Next, seal the jar, and refrigerate, shaking the jar daily.

Finally, when pickles are sweetened to your liking, enjoy!

EASY KOOL AID PICKLES
Make sure the pickles are completely covered.

Preparation

What flavor koolaid for pickles?

We used cherry for our pickle, but you can use any flavor!  If you’re having a potluck, make a jar of each color for everyone to try!

How long do you let the pickles sit in the kool aid mixture?

You’ll want to let them hang out in the brine for at least a week, but up to two weeks before enjoying. We find they’re perfect for our tastes at right about the two week mark.

KOOLAID PICKLES RECIPE
Stash them in the fridge for a week or two, making sure to shake the jar once a day.

Storage and leftovers

Do you need to refrigerate kool-aid pickles?

Yes, these should be stored in the refrigerator. Once you open a jar of shelf stable pickles it should be kept in the fridge.

How long do kool aid pickles last?

We try to eat ours within about 30 days. They should technically be good a lot longer as they’re sitting in a vinegar brine, but ours are gone quickly!

RED KOOL AID PICKLES
They’ll be bright red when you take them out! Woah!

Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions

How do you make kool aid pickles less sweet?

If you want yours less sweet, just cut the sugar down as desired. Maybe start with half the amount of sugar and see how you like it, then go from there.

Can you use pickle chips or slices?

Absolutely! Any sliced pickle will work, you just don’t want to use whole pickles since the flavor won’t permeate the skin as well.

What to eat with kool aid pickles (serving suggestions)

These are a fun snack any time, but they’re also great to bring to a picnic or potluck alongside some Amish macaroni salad, classic potato salad, and club sandwiches!

Tools we love

  • Ball Quart Wide Mouth Canning Jars – These are the size jars we typically use.  Our pickled onions are refrigerator pickled onions, not water bathed, so it’s just for pretty storage purposes.
  • Wide Mouth Plastic Storage Lids – Since these aren’t water bath canned, I prefer to use these plastic storage lids.  They’re one piece and screw on really easily.

I love pickles and have a reputation. Once my brother shipped me a box of pickle-flavored candy canes for Christmas. They were not too bad!
I would use a spicy(red pepper) dill spear with the cherry-flavored Kool-Aid. I would love to bring them to a cookout to see who would give them a try.
I love bread and butter pickles, garlic kosher dills, and hamburger dills.

  14. Linda Seablom says:

Awesome recipe! I am going to try the cherry kool aid and use spears. They sound really delicious. I will try other flavors as well! Thanks for this recipe.

  15. I like both sweet pickles and dill as well as bread and butter (guess I like ALL pickles LOL). If I made these I would use spears as I think they are easier to eat. I have never tried Kool Aid pickles but am fascinated by them and do wonder what they taste like so may have to try them.
