Why You’ll Love This Stuffed French Toast
The outside gets perfectly golden and custardy while the inside stays creamy, sweet, and just slightly tangy from the cream cheese. It’s rich without being too heavy, and you can customize the filling however you like.
It’s also great for weekends, holidays, brunches, or those random Tuesday mornings where everyone needs a morale boost.
And if you have picky eaters? Leave out the chopped strawberries and let everyone choose their own jam flavor. Suddenly breakfast becomes a whole event.

Ingredients
Filling
- Cream cheese
- Powdered sugar
- Strawberry preserves
- Vanilla
- Chopped strawberries (optional)
French Toast
- Nutmeg
- Texas toast (Brioche or Challah also work well)
- Eggs
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla
- Brown sugar
How To Make Stuffed French Toast
Beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, strawberry preserves, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the chopped strawberries if you’re using them.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, vanilla, brown sugar, and nutmeg until completely combined.
Spread a generous scoop of filling onto one slice of bread, then top with another slice to make a sandwich. Dip both sides into the egg mixture, making sure the bread is coated evenly.
Heat a buttered nonstick skillet and cook the stuffed French toast until both sides are golden brown and cooked through.
Serve warm with powdered sugar, syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, or honestly all of the above if you’re living your best life.

Tips & Tricks
- Use softened cream cheese so the filling mixes up smooth and easily.
- Texas toast, challa, or brioche works best because it’s thick enough to hold the filling without falling apart.
- Keep the heat at medium. Too hot and the outside browns before the center cooks through.
- If you’re making a big batch, keep cooked slices warm in a 200 degree oven while you finish the rest.
- And definitely experiment with different preserves. Orange marmalade stuffed French toast feels weirdly fancy in the best way.

Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat in a skillet, air fryer, or toaster oven for the best texture. The microwave works too, but the outside won’t stay crispy.
