HOW TO MAKE BAKED BRIE
Make sure the cheese is fully covered by puff pastry so it doesn’t leak out while cooking.

Preparation

Can baked brie be made ahead of time?

This is best served right from the oven but you can prep this recipe ahead of time. Wrap the brie in the puff pastry but hold off on the egg wash. Then wrap tightly and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Remove the wrapped brie from the fridge and brush the egg and water wash on the outside and bake according to instructions.

Where can you find brie cheese?

Brie is typically found in the deli section of the grocery store, usually by the fancier cheeses and meats.

Should I remove the rind from the brie before wrapping in the puff pastry?

This is completely up to you! We found the brie held its shape better when we left the rind on but if you want to remove the rind for any reason, that is completely fine as well. Either way will work!

Bake to golden brown.

Storage and leftovers

How long does baked brie last?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheating works best in the oven to help crisp up the puff pastry again.

Can you freeze baked brie?

The best way to freeze baked brie is before baking. Wrap the brie in the puff pastry but hold off on the egg wash. Wrap the puff pastry tightly in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Thaw in the fridge and continue on with the egg wash and baking when ready to serve.

Tips and tricks

✅ Swap out the walnuts for pecans if desired.

✅ Try swapping the honey with your favorite jam! Spread the jam on top of the brie and sprinkle with walnuts before wrapping with the puff pastry.

✅ Make sure to place the baked brie on a dish with edges before cutting. When warm, the honey tends to spill out when cutting into the pastry.

✅ Baked brie can be left at room temperature for up to 2 hours for serving. After that, refrigerate any leftovers to be reheated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I substitute the walnuts with another nut or omit them altogether?

Certainly! Pecans, almonds, or even pistachios can be excellent alternatives. If you have nut allergies or preferences, feel free to omit them for a nut-free version.

How can I make this recipe if I can’t find puff pastry?

If puff pastry is unavailable, you can use crescent roll dough as a substitute. Roll out the crescent dough and seal any perforations before wrapping the brie.

Can I add savory elements to the baked brie, like herbs or garlic?

Yes, you can customize the flavors. Adding herbs like rosemary or thyme, or a touch of minced garlic, can enhance the savory profile of the dish.

Can I make mini individual portions of baked brie instead of one large wheel?

Certainly! You can cut the puff pastry into smaller squares, place a portion of brie on each, and fold them individually for a charming and easy-to-serve appetizer.

Can I use frozen brie for this recipe?

Yes, frozen brie can be used. Ensure it’s properly thawed before wrapping it in puff pastry and proceeding with the recipe.

What wine pairs well with baked brie?

A light and fruity white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay, complements the creamy texture of the brie and enhances the overall experience.

Can I add a layer of fruit preserves or chutney before wrapping in puff pastry?

Absolutely! Fruit preserves or chutney can add a delightful sweet and tangy layer. Spread a thin layer on top of the brie before wrapping it in puff pastry for an extra burst of flavor.

Pecans or almonds are also a delicious choice.
