How do you make cucumber cream cheese sandwiches? (step-by-step directions)

First, beat together the cream cheese, mayo, worcestershire sauce, dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, and squeeze of lemon juice until smooth and well blended. Set aside.

Next, lay out two slices of bread. Spread a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture on one slice, and a very thin amount on the other, spreading as close to the edges as you can.

Then, layer cucumber slices on one slice of bread, overlapping if needed. Place the other slice of bread on top to form a sandwich. Using a sharp knife, cut off the crusts and discard. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally.

Finally, repeat until you’ve used all of your cucumber slices. Serve.

Preparation

What kind of bread for cucumber sandwiches?

Cucumber sandwiches typically use white sandwich bread.  Think classic Wonder Bread!  White bread has that perfect soft and gently chewy texture that works so well in this recipe.

You can also bake your own homemade white bread if you’re feeling extra industrious!

Do you need to peel the cucumbers for cucumber sandwiches?

Yes, traditionally the cucumbers are peeled and then sliced thinly for this recipe.

Can you make cucumber sandwiches ahead of time?

We do not recommend making this recipe ahead of time.  If you want to get some of the prep work out of the way early, go ahead and peel and slice the cucumbers as well as prepare the sandwich spread.

Store these separately in air tight containers in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble your finger sandwiches.

Storage and leftovers

How long do homemade cucumber sandwiches last?

These are best when enjoyed immediately after preparation, but leftovers will keep 2 – 3 days in the refrigerator.  Longer than that and they will become too soggy.

Can you freeze cucumber sandwiches?

We do not recommend freezing this recipe.

If you want to do prep-ahead work, go ahead and make the sandwich spread and slice the cucumbers. But wait to assemble the sandwiches.
