- Meat – We used ground beef but you can also use ground chicken, turkey, pork, or sausage.
- Vegetables – Yellow onion, bell pepper, and celery; diced.
- Tomato – Tomato sauce, tomato paste, and ketchup.
- Vinegar – Red wine vinegar.
- Cheese – Cream cheese, cubed and softened to room temperature, shredded cheddar cheese.

How do you make a sloppy joe dip? (step-by-step directions)
⭐ First, in a large skillet, brown ground beef. Drain excess grease. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent and the pepper and celery has started to become tender.
⭐ Next, add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, red wine vinegar, and brown sugar. Mix well.
⭐ Then, bring to a simmer, stirring, and cook until heated through.
⭐ Finally, add the cream cheese and the shredded cheese, and continue to cook, stirring, until both have melted completely and are thoroughly mixed in.

Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- ½ yellow onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- ½ cup chopped celery
- 1 can tomato sauce (15 ounces)
- 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 8 ounces cream cheese cubed, softened to room temperature
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Stove top directions:
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Drain excess grease.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and celery to skillet and continue to sauté 3 to 5 more minutes, until the onion is translucent and the pepper and celery has started to become tender.
- Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, red wine vinegar, and brown sugar. Mix well.
- Bring to a light simmer, stirring, and cook until heated through.
- Add the cream cheese and the shredded cheese, and continue to cook, stirring, until both have melted completely and are thoroughly mixed in.
Slow cooker directions:
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Use a slotted spoon to add ground beef to the slow cooker.
- Add onion, bell pepper, celery, tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, red wine vinegar, and brown sugar to the slow cooker. Stir to mix well.
- Cover and set to high for 2 - 3 hours or low for 3 - 4 hours.
- About 15 - 30 minutes before you're ready to serve, stir in the cream cheese and shredded cheese; cover. Stir once more before serving.
