Bread Dipping Oil Recipe Ingredients

  • Oil – Olive oil, I prefer a full flavored extra virgin olive oil, but use what you love!
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic, minced.
  • Basil – Dried. Did you know dried herbs are generally three to four times stronger than the fresh herb!
  • Oregano – Dried.
  • Rosemary – Dried/crushed.
  • Thyme – Dried.
  • Salt – I like to use a course salt in this recipe.
  • Black pepper – Fresh ground is best.
  • Lemon juice – Freshly squeezed.
  • Parmesan cheese – Finely shredded fresh parmesan.

This comes together super quickly and is fun to do tableside!

Preparation

Can you make olive oil bread dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can prep it ahead if you prefer.  I like the process of preparing it tableside, but if you won’t have the time to do this then you can make your infused dipping oil a day or so ahead.

What spices for olive oil dip?

This recipe calls for garlic, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. We also include lemon juice and freshly grated parmesan for extra flavor. (It’s even better than Carrabba’s bread dipping oil!)

What kind of oil for bread dip?

For the most intense flavor you’ll want to find a good full bodied, strong flavored olive oil.

BREAD DIPPING OIL
I like to let the herbs soak up the oil for a few minutes before dipping.

Storage and leftovers

How long does bread dipping oil last?

The leftover oil will keep up to about a week if properly stored.

Do you have to refrigerate bread dipping oil?

Yes! While olive oil on its own does not require refrigeration, when you add the spices and flavorings it runs the risk of also introducing bacteria if the oil is not properly stored.

For best results, keep in a sealed container in the refrigerator.  If the oil solidifies, just allow it to come to room temperature and it will liquefy again.

Did you know dried herbs are actually more potent than fresh!

  4. Can you store it in the refrigerator a day ahead serving.

    1. Yes it may thicken or solidify if you do that, but just let it come to room temperature before serving and it will re-liquify.
