Preparation
How much garlic do I use?
We used 8 cloves of garlic but you can use more or less to suit your garlic loving needs. Make sure to adjust the heat as necessary to avoid browning the garlic. Browned garlic will cause a bitter taste.
What kind of noodles should I use?
We like thin spaghetti for this one but you could use Chinese noodles, ramen, rice noodles, lo mein noodles, soba or even angel hair. You can even use something like penne noodles, pick whatever is your favorite!
What can I add to this dish?
This recipe is delicious on its own but mixed vegetables or proteins would be a great addition. You could add broccoli, chicken, steak, or shrimp. This is such a versatile dish you can really add anything that fits your fancy!
Storage and leftovers
How long do garlic noodles last?
Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days. Allow them to cool before storing and always cover tightly so the noodles don’t dry out.
What is the best way to reheat garlic noodles?
I like to add a little bit of water and reheat them in a skillet over medium heat. You can also microwave on high power in 30 second increments until your desired temperature is reached.
Can I freeze the garlic noodles?
It’s not recommended to freeze cooked garlic noodles, as the texture of the pasta may become mushy when thawed and reheated. It’s best to enjoy them fresh or store any leftovers in the refrigerator for a day or two.
Tips and tricks
✅ Fresh minced garlic will give you the best flavor but you can also use jarred minced garlic. Substitute ½ tsp for every garlic clove.
✅ Top with red pepper flakes for an added kick!
✅ Add your favorite protein and veggies to make it a hearty meal.
✅ Make a double batch for leftovers throughout the week.
Frequently asked questions
✅ What is a good substitute for the oyster sauce?
If you don’t have oyster sauce or prefer not to use it, you can substitute it with hoisin sauce, or a combination of soy sauce and a small amount of fish sauce. The flavor profile may vary slightly, but it will still be delicious.
✅ Can I use a different type of oil instead of sesame oil?
While sesame oil adds a distinct flavor to the dish, you can substitute it with another type of oil if you don’t have sesame oil on hand or don’t enjoy its taste. Peanut oil or vegetable oil can be good alternatives as they have a neutral flavor that won’t overpower the other ingredients.
✅ Can I make this recipe vegetarian or vegan?
This recipe can easily be made vegetarian by omitting the oyster sauce or using a vegetarian oyster sauce substitute. To make it vegan, you can use a vegan butter substitute and substitute the Parmesan cheese with a vegan alternative or omit it altogether.
✅ Can I add meat or seafood to this recipe?
Absolutely! This recipe serves as a great base, and you can add cooked shrimp, chicken, beef, or even tofu for added protein. Just cook your preferred protein separately and toss it in with the cooked spaghetti and sauce before serving.
✅ Can I adjust the seasonings to my taste?
Absolutely! The provided measurements for the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil are a guideline, and you can adjust them to suit your personal taste preferences. Add more or less of each ingredient as desired, tasting as you go, until you achieve the flavor profile you enjoy.
