Chili Cheese Dip Ingredients
- Butter – I used salted, but unsalted is fine too.
- Flour – All purpose flour.
- Milk – Whole milk is best, but any will work.
- Cheese – We prefer American cheese, but Velveeta can be substituted.
- Chili – Choose your favorite! We love this no bean chili recipe, or this Wendy’s copycat chili, but a can of chili works well too.
How do you make chili cheese dip? (Step-by-step)
⭐ First, melt butter in a pot, then add flour and whisk.
⭐ Next, pour in milk and whisk until there are no clumps. Bring to a boil then lower heat to a simmer, stirring until milk has thickened.
⭐ Then, turn heat to low, and whisk in cheese until completely melted.
⭐ Finally, add chili, stir to combine completely and heat through.
Preparation
Can you make chili cheese sauce ahead of time?
You can make the dip up to a couple days in advance and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Reheat on medium-low heat on the stove top.
What type of chili for chili cheese dip?
My personal favorite chili for this recipe is our beanless chili recipe, but sometimes I’ll just grab a can of chili from the market. My husband likes a more traditional chili recipe with beans.
Storage and Leftovers
Should chili cheese dip be refrigerated?
Leftover dip should definitely be refrigerated. If the dip was left at room temperature in excess of two hours, leftovers should be discarded.
Can you freeze chili cheese dip?
To freeze the dip, allow it to cool completely then freeze in an air-tight container for up to several months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in a pot on the stove over medium heat.
