Baked Ravioli Ingredients

  • Ravioli – We love this with cheese ravioli, but you can use whatever kind you like. Frozen ravioli or refrigerated ravioli works.
  • Spaghetti sauce – You can use a jar of your favorite sauce or make it at home with this crock pot marinara sauce recipe or this blender spaghetti sauce recipe
  • Cheese – Mozzarella cheese, shredded.
  • Garnish – Salt and pepper, fresh basil, grated Parmesan cheese.

How do you make baked ravioli? (step-by-step)

First, spread spaghetti sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

Then, place a layer of ravioli in the dish, then spread sauce over it, and sprinkle with mozzarella. Place another layer of ravioli, the remaining sauce, and then the remaining mozzarella.

Next, cover and bake. Remove foil and continue to bake a few minutes longer until cheese is melted and sauce is bubbly.

Finally, allow to rest a few minutes, and garnish as desired before serving.

Crock pot ravioli

Want to make baked ravioli in a slow cooker?  This is a great idea! Prepare the dish the same was as directed in the recipe, except in the crock pot insert rather than a casserole dish.

Cover and cook on low or high until dish is heated throughout and cheese is bubbly. Garnish as desired before serving.

Preparation

Do I have to cook the ravioli before baking?

In this recipe, the ravioli does not require cooking before it is added to the dish. The liquid and heat from the baking casserole will cook the ravioli.

Can you make baked ravioli ahead of time?

Yes, if making in advance I prefer to assemble it and then bake right before I’m going to serve.

Alternatively, you can bake the casserole, then reheat individual servings as desired.

Can I use jarred pasta sauce in ravioli casserole?

Absolutely, this recipe is so easy and only three ingredients when you use a jar of spaghetti sauce from the market.

Leftovers and storage

How long does baked ravioli last?

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days if stored properly. Store in a sealed air tight container for best results.

Can you freeze baked ravioli casserole?

It can be frozen before or after cooking. If freezing after cooking, make sure to allow it to cool before covering and freezing.

You can even dish it out into individual containers and then freeze for quick lunches and dinners. We like to use these leftovers storage containers

How to reheat leftovers?

Individual servings can be reheated in the microwave on high power in 30 – 60 second increments.

Larger portions can be reheated in the oven on 350F until heated through (15 – 30 minutes).  Make sure to use an oven-safe casserole dish.

Can you cook a casserole from frozen?

You can cook this baked ravioli from frozen if the dish you are using is freezer to oven safe. You will need to add about fifteen minutes of covered cook time at the beginning.

Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions

✅ Use fresh grated cheese – it melts better because it doesn’t contain anti-caking agents.

✅ Make it with sausage, ground beef, ham, bacon, or turkey – this is a great way to use leftover roasted turkey or crock pot ham

✅ Give it a kick with red pepper flakes.

✅ Make two casseroles and freeze one for later – or gift one to a new parent or a friend in need.

✅ Add veggies – make it a full meal by baking the vegetables right into the casserole.

Ravioli is one of my all time favorite pastas! I love that there’s filling inside. It’s a like a little present with each pasta! This casserole is so perfect. Allows me to just assemble, put in oven, and then walk away for a little. Great dinner casserole for moms of young kids! Not only is this something my kids love, but it gives me extra time to be the mom I want to be because it’s so easy!
