Bang bang sauce ingredients
- Mayonnaise – My preference is full fat mayo for the full bodied flavor it lends to the sauce, but you can also use low fat.
- Sweet chili sauce – You can usually find this in the Asian section of your grocery store, or sometimes near the barbecue and hot sauces.
- Sriracha – Often called Rooster Sauce for the rooster logo on the bottle.
- Rice vinegar – Rice vinegar is best for this recipe, but you can swap it for apple cider vinegar or white vinegar in a pinch. You can also skip it if you don’t have vinegar on hand.
- Honey – I love using local honeys whenever possible.

Preparation
What is bang bang sauce?
It’s a sweet and spicy, creamy sauce that was made popular by the restaurant chain Bonefish Grill. It’s great for dipping, topping, and coating your favorite meats and vegetables.
You can see it in action on our bang bang chicken!
How do I make bang bang sauce less spicy?
The sriracha is what lends most of the spice and heat to this recipe, so add it last a little bit at a time until you reach your desired level of spiciness.
You can also whisk in a little extra mayo to mellow it out.
What can I use instead of mayonnaise in bang bang sauce?
For a healthier version of the sauce, try swapping all or some of the mayo for plain Greek yogurt. Yogurt is tangier than mayo, so taste it before adding the vinegar – you may decide it doesn’t need any.
Storage and leftovers
How long does bang bang sauce last?
This will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week. Make sure to store it in a sealed air-tight container for best results.
Can you freeze bang bang sauce?
We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
