Halloween Candy Apple Slices Ingredients
- Apples – We used granny smith because of the green skin and the tart flavor but you could use any variety of apple for this recipe.
- Candy melts – Purple candy melts are our favorite for Halloween but you can use any color you like. You can also use chocolate, white chocolate, or almond bark.
- Paramount crystals – Used for thinning out the candy melt mixture, you can also use coconut oil for this.
- Sprinkles – Any variety of Halloween sprinkles you prefer!
- Popsicle sticks – To insert into each apple slice.
How do you make dipped halloween apple slices? (step-by-step directions)
⭐ First, place sliced apples on a parchment lined baking sheet. Pat dry and insert a popsicle stick into the base of each.
⭐ Next, melt candy melts and slowly add paramount crystals if desired, until desired consistency is reached.
⭐ Then, spread the candy melts on top of the apple. While the melts are still hot, scatter the sprinkles on top to decorate.
⭐ Last, place the pan of finished apples in the fridge to help set the chocolate. Remove after a few minutes.

Preparation
Can I make Halloween candy apple slices ahead of time?
These are best enjoyed right after the chocolate is set. We don’t recommend making these ahead of time.
What type of apple should I use?
We like granny smith apples for this recipe because the tart flavor blends perfectly with the sweetness of the chocolate and the green skin makes them more Halloween-y. But you can use any firm apple variety that you enjoy. Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady apples would work well too.
What can I use instead of candy melts?
Try semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate, or almond bark if you don’t want to use candy melts.
What can I use instead of paramount crystals?
Paramount crystals are added to give the candy melts a smoother finish, but they aren’t strictly necessary. You can skip them, or use coconut oil instead.
Storage and leftovers
How do I store leftover candy apple slices?
As we said before, these are best enjoyed fresh but you can store these in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. They won’t be as crisp and delicious after storing they will still be safe to eat.
Can I freeze Halloween candy apple slices?
We do not recommend freezing these treats. The apple would not hold up well after freezing and thawing.
Tips and tricks
🎃 Make sure to remove any excess moisture on the apple before applying the chocolate or you’ll have a hard time getting the chocolate to stick to the apple.
🎃 To avoid browning on the apples, brush a small amount of lemon juice on the exposed apple surface after the apple is assembled.
🎃 Try to keep the sprinkles on the chocolate and not on the apple itself as the colors of the sprinkles do tend to bleed onto the apple.
🎃 Use a variety of fun Halloween sprinkles to change up your design and make these extra fun and spooky!
Frequently asked questions
How can I prevent the candy melts from hardening too quickly during the decorating process?
To keep the candy melts at a workable consistency while decorating the apple slices, you can place the bowl of melted candy melts over a double boiler, use a heating pad underneath the bowl at a low setting, or place the bowl in your slow cooker on a low setting.
Can I add additional toppings to the Halloween Candy Apple Slices?
Absolutely! Besides the Halloween sprinkles, you can get creative and add other toppings like chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or crushed candies to give your candy apple slices extra texture and flavor.
Can I make Halloween Candy Apple Slices in advance for a party?
While it’s best to enjoy them immediately after making, you can prepare the apple slices and have the candy melts and sprinkles ready in advance. Assemble them just before serving to ensure they stay fresh and visually appealing.
See printable recipe notes for additional information.
Can I use wooden sticks instead of popsicle sticks for the apple slices?
Yes, wooden sticks can be used as an alternative to popsicle sticks for inserting into the apple slices. Just make sure they are food-safe and sturdy enough to hold the candy-coated apples.
Can I make Halloween Candy Apple Slices without sticks?
Yes, if you prefer not to use sticks, you can still dip apple slices in the melted candy coating and decorate them with sprinkles while they lay flat on the parchment paper.
Can I use food coloring to dye white chocolate for the candy coating?
Yes, you can add a few drops of food coloring to white chocolate to achieve different colors for the candy coating. However, be cautious about using too much liquid coloring, as it may affect the texture of the chocolate.
