Mummy Hot Dog Ingredients

  • Crescent dough – We use pre-made refrigerated crescent dough.
  • Hot dogs or sausages – I love using cheese stuffed hot dogs or sausages so they ooze when you bite into them! Make sure you use a pre-cooked dog or sausage.
  • Mustard – For the eyeballs. You could also use ketchup, black olive pieces or even candy eyes, but I find mustard works great and tastes good too.
MUMMY HOT DOG INGREDIENTS
You can use crescent triangle dough or a sheet of it.

How do you make mummy hot dogs? (step-by-step)

First, unroll crescent dough and slice it into thin strips.

Next, double wrap strips around each of the the hot dogs or sausages (make sure to leave room for the eyes!).

Then, place mummy dogs on a baking sheet and cook until crescent dough is cooked through and turning golden brown.

Finally, use mustard to make eyes on each mummy and serve with your favorite condiments.

Preparation

Can you make mummy hot dogs ahead of time?

Absolutely! This is a fun treat to make the evening before and pop into your kids lunch boxes the week of Halloween.

Enjoy them cold or warmed up in a toaster oven or microwave.

What kind of meat for mummy dogs?

The only real rule is that you’ll want to use pre-cooked meat (like hot dogs, breakfast sausages, smoked sausages) that only require reheating.

If you’re using uncooked sausage (like Italian sausages), cook them first, allow to cool, then wrap with dough and bake as directed.

Leftovers and storage

How long do mummy dogs last?

These will keep 3 – 4 days in a sealed container in the refrigerator. If making ahead, wait until serving to add the eyes.

Can you freeze mummy hot dogs?

We do not suggest freezing this recipe, but you can in a pinch.
