Pineapple Margarita
What is a Pineapple Margarita
A pineapple margarita is a variation of the classic margarita made primarily with pineapple juice instead of lime juice. A pineapple margarita will typically include pineapple juice, lime juice, tequila, and Grand Marnier.
Some will also include an additional sweetener like agave syrup or simple syrup.
Pineapple Margarita Ingredients
- Pineapple juice – Make sure you’re using 100% pineapple juice as opposed to a pineapple juice cocktail. Dole makes a lovely canned pineapple juice that is shelf stable and can be found in the canned fruit/juice section of the market.
- Lime juice – It’s important to use fresh squeezed lime juice from a very ripe lime. I find that bottled lime juice just doesn’t maintain the same quality of flavor as fresh squeezed and with so few ingredients, it’s important to make sure they all taste fantastic.
- Tequila – The best tequila for margaritas is a silver or blanco tequila that has not been aged more than a couple months. Gold tequilas have been aged longer in oak barrels which gives them a oaky flavor and caramel color.
- Grand Marnier – Grand Marnier is an orange-flavored cognac liqueur created in 1880 by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle. Sometimes folks will use Cointreau or Triple Sec instead of Grand Marnier.
- Agave syrup – If you like a sweeter cocktail, you can add some agave syrup, or simple syrup. I strongly suggest trying the drink first without the added sweetener though because pineapple juice is naturally very sweet.
- Garnishes – For pineapple margaritas I prefer a sugar rimmed glass. This cocktail isn’t sour like a classic margarita, so the salt doesn’t enhance flavor. A touch of sugar on the other hand – YUM. And definitely add a wedge of freshly sliced pineapple!
Pineapple Margaritas Inspired by Princess Cruises
The second port of our recent Princess Cruise through the Eastern Caribbean was Roatan Honduras where we spend the day on an all inclusive beach filled with pretty sand beaches, grass huts over the water, the most delicious fish lunch I’ve ever had, and of course (of COURSE) amazingly delicious fruity cocktails.
The prominent flavors in our drinks were mango and pineapple which, naturally inspired me to create a mango margarita recipe and this pineapple margarita!

How Do You Make a Pitcher of Pineapple Margaritas
We typically consider a pitcher to be 8 servings. Each pineapple margarita is about 3/4ths a cup per serving.
To make a pitcher, multiply each ingredient by eight (exact measurements provided below). Fill pitcher with ice, add pineapple juice, lime juice, Grand Marnier, then tequila. Stir well.
Can You Make Pineapple Margaritas Ahead of Time
You can make our pineapple margarita recipe ahead of time, but make sure not to add the ice until immediately before serving (or it will melt and water down the drink). Store prepared cocktails in a sealed container in the refrigerated for up to two days.
How Do You Make a Spicy Pineapple Margarita
To make a spicy pineapple margarita, muddle a thin slice of jalapeno at the bottom of the glass before pouring in your juice and liquor. Make sure to stir well.
Tips and Tricks
🟢 Try different types of sugar on the rim of your drink – I love a good classic white sugar rim, but sometimes it’s fun to pull out the colored sugars or even sprinkles!
🟢 When garnishing the rim of your glasses make sure to roll the outside of the glass versus dipping it to avoid getting the garnish into the drink itself.

Tools we love
- Glass pitcher – Everyone needs a gorgeous glass pitcher! Perfect for water on the weekdays and cocktails on the weekends!
- Stemless wine glasses – I am a huge fan of stemless wine glasses for cocktails as they’re much less likely to tip over. Read = I am clumsy.
- Upright blender – Frozen drinks deserve a good blender. Make sure you use one that can blend ice easily.

I tried pineapple margarita once in a party and have been looking for its method of prepration since then! Thanks a bunch!
I had company and needed to use up some pineapple juice. We loved this recipe. It is now added to my drink menu.
yay!!!
I’ve never tasted a Pineapple Margarita before but i’ve heard of a few restaurants around where i stay that sell those. Because of this recipe, i’ll certainly try it next time i go into the city. Thanks a lot for this.
awesome, glad you enjoyed 🙂
Only change I made was to used frozen pineapple chunks (around 1 cup) instead, since I like frozen margaritas. Excellent!!
sounds amazing!
Was wondering about the optional agave syrup, in the recipe it states one cup for both the individual size and by the pitcher, Wondering if it should be 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon for the individual? Thank you for your time
Oops! 1 teaspoon!
Made this for our summer girls trip, big hit! Thanks!
We all loved these. Tried them frozen and on the rocks!!!
