Sweet and Salty Movie Popcorn Chocolate Bark

I'm kind of obsessed with popcorn lately - sweet and salty popcorn to be exact.  We've been making a ton of Vanilla Butter Popcorn (themed for what we're watching, of course!) but a few nights ago when we were having a family movie night, I was hardcore craving chocolate.  Since my kids are super chocolate fans too, I didn't think they'd mind if we switched things up a little and made chocolate the base flavor with highlights of popcorn.  (Spoiler: they didn't mind.  At all.)

This Movie Popcorn Chocolate Bark is super crazy easy to make and the worst part is definitely waiting for it to set.  (A watched bark never sets?). My husband, who is not a big sweets fan gobbled his up. I think this would make such a fun gift for someone who's not feeling well - bring it with a movie!  Or a teacher gift - or even a new parent date-night-in gift!  Or you could just eat it all.  Which is exactly what happened in our house.

----------

Sweet and Salty Movie Popcorn Chocolate Bark, Ingredients:

  • 12 ounce semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup colorful candy or sprinkles
  • 1 heaping cup popcorn (I strongly suggest the movie theater butter flavor!)

Sweet and Salty Movie Popcorn Chocolate Bark, Directions:

  1. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl - heat in 30 second increments, stirring between heat cycles.
  2. Spread melted chocolate in a thin layer over a parchment lined baking sheet.  Press candy and popcorn into melted chocolate.
  3. Place baking sheet in a cool dry place until set (fridge works, or I put it on my patio if the weather is nice) - approximately 15-20 minutes.
  4. Break apart and ENJOY!

My kids loved love loved the original Hotel Transylvania movie (to the point where I could probably repeat the dialogue verbatim), so for family movie night we chose the newly released Hotel Transylvania 2 and enjoyed it with our popcorn bark, M&M’S® Chocolate Candies, Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn, and Coca-Cola original! Soda is a big treat in our home, so the kids were also super excited to indulge in a glass each - we even pulled out the fancy glasses!  My husband is a Coca-cola super fan, so we always have some stocked in the fridge. Hotel Transylvania 2 was just as big a hit as the first, and as of this writing, my kids have already watched it a half dozen times in both English and Spanish!

I picked everything up on a quick Walmart run.  If you're putting together a gift pack, I strongly suggest including a Coca-Cola 6-pack, a package of popcorn, and the cute 3.5 ounce M&M’S® Chocolate Candies canisters that are currently available in the checkout aisle.  And a movie of course - don't forget the movie!

Right now, if you buy all 4 participating products (one from each brand listed HERE) in a single transaction at Walmart between 12/22/15 and 2/2/16, then snap a picture of your receipt and visit uploadreceipt.com/movienight to submit your receipt by 2/9/16 (Tip: take a picture of this URL now so you remember it later!) you'll get a $10 Vudu movie code* by email!
