Preparation
Can you make strawberry kiss cookies ahead of time?
These cookies can be prepared several days in advance. Keep them in a sealed container in a cool/dry place. They do not require refrigeration.
How do you keep strawberry kiss cookies soft?
The key to keeping these cookies soft is not to overbake. You’ll want to pull them out of the oven and add the chocolate kiss as they’re just barely done. Don’t wait for them to turn dark or golden brown.
Why chill the dough?
This prevents the cookies from spreading too much when they are baked. It also makes rolling the dough into a ball easier!
Storage and leftovers
How long do strawberry kiss cookies last?
They will last for several days (up to a week) at room temperature if stored in a sealed/airtight container. For longer keeping, freeze them.
Can you freeze strawberry kiss cookies?
Yes, allow the cookies to cool completely then store in a freezer-safe/airtight container. Thaw slowly for best results. I like to move mine to the refrigerator for a day and then to room temperature.
Tips and tricks
✅ Refrigerate the chocolate kisses before pressing them into the warm dough so the chocolate doesn’t melt.
✅ If you can’t find pink sanding sugar, regular white granulated sugar will work.
✅ Make sure the cream cheese is softened before adding to the dough so it mixes in well.
✅ Top these with striped peppermint kisses or white chocolate striped kisses for some added flair!
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a different flavor of cake mix for these cookies?
While this recipe specifically calls for strawberry cake mix, you can experiment with other flavors like chocolate, vanilla, or lemon for different variations of these cookies.

Yes, you can customize these cookies by adding chopped nuts like pecans or almonds, dried fruit such as cranberries or raisins, or even mini chocolate chips to the dough before baking.
