Preparation
Can you make cookie monster cookies ahead of time?
Yes! You can make and bake the cookies a few days ahead, or prep by making the dough in advance and keeping it in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to bake.
If you’re going to make them more than a few hours in advance, wait to press in the extra mix-ins until right before baking so they don’t become soggy.
How many cookies does this recipe make?
This recipe is inspired by the giant Crumbl cookies, so we made six HUGE cookies! You can absolutely split the dough up more and make up to 24 smaller cookies.
Just make sure to shorten the cook time accordingly.
What kind of food coloring for blue monster cookies?
Gel food coloring (also sometimes called icing color) will give you the most vibrant and bold colors. Gel food coloring can be found online or in the baking section of most craft stores. It can sometimes be found at supermarkets.
Food coloring drops will also work, but will not be as bright.
Storage and leftovers
How long do cookie monster cookies last?
These will keep 3- 4 days at room temperature, up to a week in the refrigerator, or longer in the freezer.
Can you freeze the cookies?
Yes! To freeze the baked cookies, allow them to cool completely then store in a freezer safe air-tight container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
To freeze the dough, form into balls and roll in dough, then place in a freezer safe airtight container and separate layers with parchment paper.
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions
✅ Make sure not to overbake. In fact, these cookies should be just slightly under-baked so they stay soft and chewy on the inside.
✅ Bake on a lined baking sheet (with a silicone mat or parchment paper) or use a well greased cookie sheet (I prefer silpat!) to make sure the cookies don’t stick.
✅ Try adding candy eyeballs for a truly “monstrous” cookie!

How to Make Cookie Monster Cookies
Cookie Monster Cookies
Ingredients
- ½ cup salted butter softened to room temperature
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup white granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
- blue food coloring* (use gel for the most vibrant color)
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ⅔ cup white chocolate chips divided in half
- ⅔ cup mini Oreos divided in half
- ⅔ cup mini chocolate chip cookies divided in half
Instructions
- In a large bowl, using an electric mixer cream together the butter and both sugars until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla and blue food coloring, until desired shade is reached.
- Add in the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix until just combined. Stir in half of the white chocolate chips, half of the mini Oreos, and half of the mini chocolate chips. Break up the cookies a bit while mixing.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal balls and place on a lined/prepped baking sheet.
- Break up the remaining mini Oreos and mini chocolate chip cookies. Press the remaining white chocolate chips, mini Oreos and mini chocolate chips cookies into the tops of the dough balls. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Bake the cookies on the center rack in a 350℉ oven for 15-18 minutes, just until the edges are turning golden brown. Make sure not to overcook, we want the cookies to stay chewy!
- Allow to cool for about five minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
