How do you make crispy spinach mozzarella sticks in the air fryer? (step-by-step directions)

First, lay out an egg roll wrapper and dip a finger in the water to wet all the edges. Lay a strip of spinach down the middle of the egg roll wrapper and place a cheese stick on top of the spinach.

Next, fold one side of the wrapper tightly over the cheese. Tuck in the top and bottom of the wrapper and then roll the cheese to close. Repeat with all of the cheese sticks.

Then, place the cheese sticks into the fridge to chill.

Finally, spray or brush the tops of the cheese sticks with oil or cooking spray and cook until the cheese sticks are lightly golden. Let cool slightly and serve with marinara.

Preparation

Can you make air fryer spinach mozzarella sticks in advance?

Yes, these can be made a few days ahead of time and enjoyed cold when you’re ready to eat or be reheated in the air fryer or toaster oven.

What kind of cheese for air fryer spinach mozzarella sticks?

You can use whatever cheese you like, but traditionally this recipe is made with mozzarella cheese sticks (also called string cheese). My kids also like them with the twisty cheese sticks that have two kinds of cheese!

How do you stop the cheese from spilling out of the mozzarella sticks?

Overcooking the spinach mozzarella sticks can cause the cheese to spill out. Keep a close eye on them while they cook, especially because all air fryers cook differently.

If there was a rip in the egg roll wrapper or if the wrappers were not sealed tightly can also cause the cheese to ooze out. Make sure to roll them up tightly!

Storage and leftovers

How long do air fried spinach mozzarella sticks last?

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days or longer in the freezer. Keep them in a sealed air tight container for best results.

How do you reheat air fryer spinach mozzarella sticks?

Reheat in the air fryer at the same temp you cooked them initially. Cook for 4 – 6 minutes, or until crispy and warmed to your liking. They can also be reheated in the toaster oven or microwave.

Can you freeze air fryer spinach mozzarella sticks?

Yes, if you’d like to freeze them, allow the sticks to cool, then place in a freezer safe, airtight container for 3 – 6 months.

Tips and tricks

✅ Don’t skip chilling the mozzarella sticks in the fridge. This helps to keep them sealed tightly while they cook.

✅ Sprinkle some garlic salt or garlic powder inside the egg roll wrapper to add extra flavor.

✅ Change up the cheese stick flavor to make different varieties of cheese sticks.

✅ Add parmesan cheese before rolling the cheese sticks up or sprinkle some parmesan on before air frying.

What to enjoy with air fryer spinach mozzarella sticks (serving suggestions)

These are a great appetizer the whole family will enjoy. You always need a good dipping sauce for cheese sticks. We like to dip them in blender spaghetti sauce, slow cooker marinara, or even homemade ranch dressing!

  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • oil to brush on before cooking
  • water to seal the wrappers
  • optional: marinara or ranch dip

These are so good. I loved the egg roll wrappers in place of batter, and the spinach was such a nice touch. I’ll be making these again.
