Does fruit salad have dressing on it?
This recipe calls for a simple two ingredient dressing made with honey and fresh lime juice. That said, you can definitely skip the dressing if you prefer yours plain.
What fruits should not be mixed in fruit salad?
Maybe I’m living on the edge, but I believe you should put whatever kind of fruit you love in yours!
I know a lot of folks believe banana have no place in fruit salad, but my grandmother always added them (and it was delish) so I say you do you.
How do you keep fruit salad from turning brown?
One of the reasons we add the honey lime dressing is to help keep the fruit from browning (citrus juices will do this).
If you prefer not to add dressing, try rinsing your fruit in a mixture of lemon or lime water before combining. It will slow the oxidation (browning) process.
Another trick is to store the salad in orange juice (I learned this from my mother-in-law).
Storage and leftovers
How long does fruit salad last?
This will keep for about 5 days. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Can you freeze fruit salad?
Yes! Just know that freezing it will change the consistency of the fruit and make it a little mushy. I personally don’t mind (and like to serve it with cinnamon chips), but it is worth noting.
Thaw frozen fruit salad in the refrigerator.
Tips and tricks
✅ Try adding spices to your dressing like cinnamon, apple pie spice, or tajin.
