How do you make classic peanut butter fudge? (step-by-step)
⭐ First, combine the butter and peanut butter and heat until smooth and combined.
⭐ Then, add the vanilla to the peanut butter mixture and stir. In a large bowl add the powdered sugar and pour in the peanut butter, stir until all combined.
⭐ Next, line a pan with foil or parchment and spread the fudge into the pan smoothing out the top. Refrigerate until cool and set.
⭐ Finally, remove from pan and cut into bite sized squares.
Heat and whisk together butter and peanut butter. Add vanilla and powdered sugar, then spread into pan.
Microwave peanut butter fudge
To make this in the microwave, you’ll want to warm the butter and peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl in 20 – 30 second increments, stirring in-between heating cycles, until smooth and combined.
Stove top peanut butter fudge
If you prefer to make this on the stove top, add the peanut butter and butter to a saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat and stir constantly until completely melted and combined.
Make sure you chill completely before trying to slice.
Preparation
Do you need a candy thermometer to make fudge?
This peanut butter fudge recipe does not require a candy thermometer and can be made using the microwave or stove top.
Smooth or chunky peanut butter?
We used smooth peanut butter in the pictured preparation, but feel free to use chunky if you like some texture to your fudge!
Can you make fudge ahead of time?
Yes, this can be made a few days in advance. Store at room temperature in a sealed container.
This recipe makes 24 – 36 bite sized pieces of fudge.
Leftovers and storage
How do you store fudge?
After the fudge has set, it can be stored at room temperature in a sealed container. It can also be stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
Can you freeze fudge?
Fudge can be frozen for two to three months. Best practice is to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer bag, while it is still in a block (before it is cut). Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before slicing.
How long does fudge last?
Your fudge will last 2 – 3 days at room temperature, 3 – 5 days in the refrigerator, or up to three months in the freezer. Or if you bring it to my house it will be gone in a few hours.
After the initial chill period, fudge can be kept at room temperature.
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions
✅ Make sure not to scorch the peanut butter when melting by stirring frequently. If you’re using a microwave, never let them go for more than 30 seconds without stirring.
✅ Allowing the fudge to set in the fridge for a few hours before slicing will make it easier to get clean sharp cuts.
✅ Swiping the knife with vegetable oil will also help give you a perfectly clean cut!
Try it with chunky peanut butter for some crunch!
What to eat with peanut butter fudge (serving suggestions)
