Steak sliders are a great appetizer or dinner idea. Serve them with our easy red wine sauce and everyone will ask for the recipe!

Steak sliders are a great way to give new live to leftover steak.  We love having these a day or two after a prime rib dinner! They’re also a great option for fall football parties because who’s going to say no to steak? Serve them alongside some stuffed mushrooms and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers! STEAK SLIDERS

Steak Sliders with Red Wine Sauce Ingredients

Sliders

  • Dinner rolls – halved and toasted
  • Cooked steak – enough for 8 sliders (quality deli roast beef works great in a pinch!)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Optional – green onion for garnish

Red Wine Sauce

  • Sweet onion – small chopped
  • Garlic cloves – minced
  • Olive oil
  • Beef bouillon
  • Red wine – I like something full bodied like a merlot
  • Salt and pepper – a generous pinch and a dash
  • Cornstarch – dissolved in the same amount of water (use tapioca starch if you’re grain-free)

How do you make steak sliders?

First, over medium/low heat, saute onions and garlic in olive oil for several minutes until onions are translucent and mixture is very fragrant. ⭐ Then, add water, bouillon, red wine, salt, and pepper.  Simmer for several minutes. ⭐ Next, strain out onions and garlic, then return sauce to the pan. ⭐ Finally, very slowly pour in dissolved cornstarch, stirring constantly.  Simmer at least an additional 5 minutes, stirring to break up any clumps.  Remove from heat. Assemble sliders and pour sauce over top. What buns to use for steak sliders?

You can use any dinner rolls or slider style buns for this recipe.  If I have time I like to make our quick dinner roll recipe, but if not I’ll pick up a pack from the bread aisle at the market. My kids are partial to Hawaiian sweet rolls, but I prefer a more savory roll for this dish.

What steak for steak sliders?

Any leftover steak is fine for this recipe.  When we do restaurant style steak, I will often make a extra so we can have sliders the next day.  We have several steak recipes that would work perfectly for this recipe. And in a pinch you could even substitute roast beef from the deli! Steak Sliders

Can you make steak sliders ahead of time?

You can make all the components for steak sliders ahead of time, but we do not recommend assembling until right before serving. If you put the sliders together too soon, the sauce and spread will soak into the bread and you will end up with a soggy mess. To shorten your prep time, make the red wine sauce up to a couple days before hand and store it in the refrigerator. You can also slice the buns and the steak ahead of time too. Steak Sliders

Tips and tricks

🟢 Don’t skip toasting the slider buns, this elevates the textural experience and makes them so much better! 🟢 It’s okay to use cold meat on the steak sliders, but make sure to warm up the red wine sauce before serving. 🟢 Definitely prepare more than you think you’ll need – these go fast!
