Chicken Spaghetti Ingredients
- Spaghetti – Technically you can use whatever pasta you like, but is it really chicken spaghetti without the spaghetti?
- Chicken – Cooked and chopped or shredded. I like to use this instant pot shredded chicken.
- Condensed soup – Cream of chicken is what we usually go with, but any of the ‘cream of’ soups will work.
- Chicken broth or stock – Make your own chicken stock, use some from the store, or prepare it with a bouillon.
- Cheese – Cheddar and American, shredded.
- Spices – Garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt.
How do you make chicken spaghetti? (step-by-step)
⭐ First, cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and return to pot.
⭐ Then, in a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder and seasoned salt. Stir in the cheeses and the chicken.
⭐ Next, add the mixture to the pasta and mix well. Spoon the spaghetti into a casserole dish and press down gently.
⭐ Finally, bake until melty and browning on top.
Preparation
Can you make chicken spaghetti ahead of time?
Yes, put it together a day in advance or the night before and bake when ready. Easy dinner, done! You can also prep ahead and freeze it (details below).
What noodles for chicken spaghetti?
Well, spaghetti of course! But truly, you can use any type of pasta you love. My kids are partial to elbow noodles.
Do you cook the noodles first?
Yes, the spaghetti needs to be cooked and drained per package directions before stirring into the casserole.
What vegetables can I add to chicken spaghetti?
I love to add a can of drained petite diced tomatoes and a bag of diced bell peppers. My kids are partial to a bag of mixed veggies (peas, carrots, and corn). The awesome thing about this recipe is most veggies added taste great!
Leftovers and storage
How long does chicken spaghetti last?
Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days. Store in a covered/air-tight container for best results.
Can you freeze chicken spaghetti?
Yes! Freeze the casserole before baking. Wrap tightly in foil and then, if you will be freezing longer than a month, wrap again in plastic wrap. Freeze for up to 3 months. Add 45 minutes (covered with foil) to bake time if baking from frozen. Remove foil and then bake remaining time uncovered.
Variations
🔥 Make it spicy by adding a dollop of sriracha or red hot sauce.
🍅 Fill it with veggies for a well rounded meal.
🍝 Try it with different shaped noodles for a fun change.
🧀 Go super cheesy by adding an extra cup of shredded cheese on top before baking.
What to eat with chicken spaghetti (serving suggestions)
I love to complement a cheesy casserole with a big fresh salad (maybe this salad with apples and blue cheese) or a side of roasted veggies like roasted brussels sprouts or roasted broccoli. For dessert maybe a bowl of yummy tropical fruit salad.

So easy to adapt to your own tastes. Love to eat some, freeze some and change it up with add-ons after thawing.
Donald John says
Always extra cheese.
Betty Elsner says
I would add peas.
Rebecca L Wilson says
I would definitely add some veggies,, like grated squash and/or carrot. Possibly even use spaghetti squash as the base.
Debbie says
Yes I would add veggies – any kind will do but we love to add broccoli, diced onions and mushrooms. Additionally we do change spaghetti noodles to bowties pasta or orecchiette, sometimes stuff chicken spaghetti into jumbo shells. We do add extra cheese for the top only. We would add a side dish like a salad, rolls or any kind of veggies other than what’s in the chicken spaghetti dish.
Carol DeMatt says
Sounds good.Cant wait to try it!!
Suzanne says
It looks yummy! I would add some wonton strips, green onions, and red bell peppers. If there was any other side dish maybe some pineapple slices.
Tracey A says
This looks so good. I agree with adding veggies to your own taste. I like a little color in my foods, so some diced red pepper and chopped sweet onion. I think some broccoli would also be good in it! This looks yummy!
Becky Mason says
Used rigatoni-YUM!
Robin says
This is my crock pot chickenetti recipe. Always extra cheese. Sometimes I throw in some carrots.
Angie Carey says
This sounds like a very quick and easy meal! The veggies I would add would be diced red peppers and broccoli florets. (would give the casserole a bit more color and also get more vitamine C into it.)
As for a side, maybe a caesar salad and garlic bread.
Ivory says
This looks and sounds delicious! I would probably add some spinach and artichokes to it.
Teresea Anglin says
I would uses a colby jack mix cheese instead of the cheddar. I love a mix of cheese’s and love to add in a white cheese. Even a Gouda cheese might add a little flair. but definitely will be making this!
Debbie says
I love to add fresh vegetables whenever I can.
Suzanne says
I make this with Alfredo and use mozzarella and parmesan! Serve it with a tossed salad and garlic bread. I have also added some chopped onion and diced zucchini. Yum!
Karen C says
I’d add fresh broccoli or peas. And I’ve used elbow noodles or bow tie pasta when I don’t want to lend the house for a single missing ingredient.
Sheila Slagle says
I’d like to add a bit of julienned sliced carrots, or for another way I’d add broccoli florets. This looks yummy, cant wait to try. I’d also serve with some type of bread.
