Start with room temp cream cheese and butter.

How do you make pumpkin spice frosting with cream cheese?

First, using an electric mixer or stand mixer, whip together butter and cream cheese.

Next, add pumpkin pie spice and powdered sugar, in small increments.

Then, continue to beat until smooth and fully incorporated.

Finally, allow to set in the refrigerator and ENJOY!

Preparation

Can you make this ahead of time?

You can make this several days in advance and keep it in your refrigerator until ready to use.

Is there pumpkin in pumpkin spice frosting?

There is no pumpkin in the frosting, rather we are using the spices associated with pumpkin pie to give it the pumpkin spiced flavor.

Storage & Leftovers

Do you need to refrigerate pumpkin spice icing?

The icing should be refrigerated first to set and then if you have any leftovers they should also be refrigerated.  Baked goods iced with this frosting should be refrigerated if they will be out more than a few hours as this is a cream cheese based icing.

How long does pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting last?

It keeps in the fridge for as long as your cream cheese and butter are good (so make sure to check the use-by dates and make a note of them on your jars).

Add confectioner’s sugar until you reach desired consistency.

I really (truly and sincerely) hope you’re not thoroughly sick of my PUMPKINEVERYTHING posts yet, because I’m only just getting started. This is my favorite (favorite favorite) food season of the year and I could just gleefully live off of pumpkin foods, and soups, and chilis for ever and ever, amen.

Okay, maybe I’d like some Thai curry every now and again, but mostly, I’d be perfectly happy (and probably round) as a pumpkin. This Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Frosting whips up in about two minutes (literally. maybe less, even.).

The recipe makes enough for one cake, and I’d like to personally recommend my Simple Pumpkin Spice Cake as the first thing you put it on.  Unless you’re gluten-free.  In which case I propose you try the Flourless Pumpkin Spiced Mug Cake!

Serving suggestions

Put together a whole fall spread with creamy mashed potatoes, pumpkin drop biscuits, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin donuts glazed with this icing!
